That's pretty good for a 5 min chop. I wouldn't be surprised if this is 90% of what the final product will turn out to be. For some reason, the over-exaggerated headlamps of the SLK seem to work with the SL.

Because for such an small car as the SLK, you have to design something chunky, with exagerated lines, instead of a shy desing, as the new SLK one.

I've made this same argument before about the head lights and actually made a similar chop to clarify the point. Based on the latest spy shots however, I have come to the conclusion that this pic is the real deal or closest so far.

The folks who make these chops have had a chance to examine the camoed vehicles closer and adjust their chops accordingly. Take a closer look at the latest spy shots. I'm surprised MB has uncovered that portion already because it has huge implications about the future design direction of the Co.

Such details are usually last to be revealed but is is pretty evident.

P/S... for all my friends who noticed I was missing, I'm back after a brain injury that almost took me out. Very lucky to be back. I haven't been able to drive any of my cars for 3 months :( ... I can't wait :t-drive:

Uggh, that sucks. Hope it is all good now. Take care.

That's terrible to hear GBoy, but great to hear you're okay, and glad to have you back. Those beauties in your driveway are anticipating your return. :D

GBOY: continue to follow your rehabilitation to the very last day that doctors have prescribed (if not already completed) and I hope everything returns to 'normal' as soon as possible.

Welcome back GBoy, I'm glad you're better now! Good catch with that front light design BTW.

Thanks my Cyber-Family :) I don't intend to highjack this thread but that just happened to be my first post in months. I was 'lucky' enough literally to walk away after a month in the ICU. Let's stay healthy and live life to the fullest folks, apparently it can happen to anyone :(

That red chop reeks SL R129 and is yet another piece in Mercedes' onslaught to revive their celebrated design. It's goes without discussion to say that the R129 sport one of the most memorable and iconic designs produced in the past 20 years. The opulence of the design is unparalleled, it's the Cindy Crawford of convertibles: Glamorous, sensual and lust worthy. On visual impact the design speaks the language of luxury and romance.

If Mercedes succeed reheating the design and sprinkling it with subtle cues stereotypical to today's cars, they will have yet another hit on their hands. However, I see unlikely success in achieving this for the reason that appears that the 2013 SL will feature the same roof architecture and possibly body frame as the current generation SL. This is apparent in the spyshots. Similar recycling is seen in the new SLK which has something unharmonious about it's design because Mercedes has retained the frame architecture of the predecessor. It's as if the car isn't new but has just been given a massive face lift, sort of like watching a female friend wear a facial make-up that's uncharacteristic of her. Either way I hope Mercedes will ease down on the cosmetic decorating. With the exception of the new CLS, I'm not entirely in matrimony with the appearance of the new Mercedes -- let alone the radical "corrective surgery" facelift as seen on the SL and C-Class.

That is one of the greatest cars ever made probably. I will never forget these vault-like doors. Incredible, and never seen on another car since.... Sad actually.

never loved that SL, it looked plain. headlights, tail lights were very common among the range. Dash looked stupid with the missaligned vents compared to the lower center console IMO.

The R129 rocks, but I'm even more enamored by the R107. That car is a work of elegant art. It nostalgically speaks for, and conveys such a charismatic and glorious era, whilst maintaining an absolutely timeless appearance and value.
