Am I the only one who does not like how the car looks on these pics?.

It gives a good indication that the new SLK and SL will be more closer in design language than previously.

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz SL is due sometime next year. It will feature an array of Benz power plants including a new 3.5 liter V6 and a 4.6 liter twin-turbo V8. It will also likely be lighter than its predecessor, with extensive use of carbon-fiber components and reinforced plastics.

I'm liking everything about this EXCEPT the front headlights. It makes the front end look like the USDM Accord coupe a little. While I like simple elegance in my designs, I expect the headlights to look little more expressive. Maybe it'll have similar graphics/set-up of the CLS to give it some visual drama.

When is this expected to be released? Summer 2012?

Yeah, looks very promising so far, except for that dull and weak inner headlight cut.

I don`t know if I like what MB is doing with the deck-lid lines of the newer sports cars. It all started with the SLS. If you look at the profile of the car the boot lid starting from the b-post back is too high. It almost gives the car an akward looking profile.

I`m going to wait for the car to break cover before making judgements.

This looks fantastic. The problem is, even when the lights and the intakes eems to be accurate, they are rendering the grille as if it was smaller. If you look at the spy pics your see it´s bigger, almost SLS size, which kills the front IMO.

Hi,

besides of the new look:
Do you think there will be a 4matic version?
The 4matic is small and weighs only something about 60 Kilos...
I would definitively go for the 4matic version!

BTW: I´m one of the lucky people who has managed to get some winter tires for my SLS... but i´m not able to get the SLS out of the garage because of the snow :D
It´s fun to go in the snow with a rear wheel drive, when you have time and no pressure to drive somewhere, but for every day use, AWD rules in winter!

I agree. Could anyone with photoshop skills apply the front of the just released SLK to this car. That might be a better representation of the final design than what we see here.

That's pretty good for a 5 min chop. I wouldn't be surprised if this is 90% of what the final product will turn out to be. For some reason, the over-exaggerated headlamps of the SLK seem to work with the SL.
