TT 2013 Audi TT Spy Pics & Info

I don't think this is correct. TT will share platform and engines with A3 so how far up market can Audi take it. Only reason to move TT up market is to make space to introduce a new model e.g. A1 Roadster and have up market TT compete with something like F-Type but that wouldn't happen with A3 platform. Unless new TT is going to be radically different on new platform, very unlikely. Furthermore this would mean next generation R8 would have to step up further. Again unlikely with it sharing platform with next Gallardo and Aventador not moving up market in replacing the Merci.

I think up market is in reference to use of CFRP and providing more technical engineering advances

To be honest I'm confused with what Audi are planing

I agree Deckkook, it really needs to lose the squashed VW Beetle look though.

If you believe everything wrote by UK rags then Audi will be moving the TT upmarket, to do this will push it very close to the price of the A5 so IMO it will have to adopt a unique design that doesn't show any tell tale signs to its humble origins.

I question how they'll be able to push its price up when its based on a Golf?

Hopefully because it isn't based on a Golf and would then be the production version of the Quattro Concept. Now that is a TT, at all and Audi that I would really like to own.

If it looks anything like the Fourtitude sketch with the Quattro concept lights I'm sold. One thing the TT needs is some testosterone to man up

No, what it needs is an F4-L chassis, not that crap F4-T chassis.

I don't quite agree with this opinion because the traditional Quattro setup means an engine positioned further forward than would be the case with a transverse mount, yes the gearbox is sitting behind the front wheels but certainly not the engine that's for sure. I'm a great believer that if they get it right a Golf platform can still be a pretty decent driving tool.

In the same way the push up the A1 price when it's based on the Polo ;)

You need to look at the price of both the Polo and A1 to see that opinion isn't quite right, well not in the UK at least. Unless you think a premium of £600 is excessive to gain the kudos of the Audi badge.

P.S.
Regarding the TT, my impression from what I've read is that we will be seeing a RS version that's costing more than £50K. That's significantly more than today's version.

Speaking of which -

Audi A1 = Seat Ibiza / VW Polo platform

Audi A3 = Seat Leon / Skoda Octavia

Audi Q3 = Skoda Octavia / Seat Toledo / Skoda Yeti platform

Audi TT = Skoda Octavia / Seat Toledo / Skoda Yeti platform

I can't view either Seat or Skoda the same as arguing between Audi and VW, both these sub brands have image issues that will take years to overcome and as such are priced accordingly. Where Volkswagen is strong i.e. Polo and especially Golf their pricing is within spitting distance of their equivalent Audi models.

I was hoping new TT would change radically (thinking of the Quatto or the R4 a.k.a E-Tron).

Do we know for sure it will be based on Golf? Or is there a chance it will be based on next generation A4/A5?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
