Audi USA Rejoices as it Reports 42nd Month of Record Sales

With Mercedes-Benz and BMW battling it out in terms of US sales until the very last month of 2013, many people may have forgotten that yet another German premium manufacturer is waiting in the shadows.
That being said, Audi of America just reported June 2014 sales of 16,867 cars, with the Audi Q5 and the A3 Sedan being the two top sellers of the Ingolstadt manufacturer's lineup in the United States.

The June grand total of 16,867 vehicles sold represents a 23.1 percent improvement compared with the same period last year, while also being Audi's 42nd consecutive month of record monthly sales.

“In just six months this year, Audi has sold more vehicles in the U.S. than it did over a full year as recently as 2009,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America.

“The spring launch of the all-new A3 sedan is the latest building block for this achievement along with the continued success of our sport-utility models and a strengthened presence in the top premium segments. Underpinning all of that is a steadfast commitment to elevate the Audi brand through a sustainable business model,” he added.

Despite neither BMW nor Mercedes-Benz releasing their June sales figures for the US yet (at the time we wrote this piece), it is safe to say that Audi still has some caching up to do overall though – despite their record-breaking monthly sales - especially since Lexus sales have also started bouncing up in recent months.

BMW Beats Mercedes-Benz in 2014 US Sales For The First Six Months

After the three-pointed star manufacturer finallygot its luxury sales crown back at the end of 2013 in the United States, the first half of 2014 has seen BMW slowly but surely inch into the lead once again.
With year-to-date sales of 157,382 cars, the BMW brand is slightly ahead of MB USA, who despite achieving another milestone in record sales, onlymanaged to have a year-to-date figure of 151,624 cars.

In other words, it was the best first half of the year ever for BMW USA from this point of view, the numbers representing an increase of 12.1 percent on sales compared to the first six months of 2013.

“The June and first-half results prove again that customer demand is solid and stronger than many have thought and we fully expect confidence and demand to stay strong through the end of the year,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “I am particularly pleased with the results for our 2 and 4 Series models; these are driving machines at the core of the BMW brand.”

Even though MINI sales continue to be abysmal in the US, with year-to-date numbers falling by 25.4 percent, the BMW Group on the whole managed to increase their sales by 5.1 percent.

Still, with six months to go and an overall better rhythm of sales increases, not to mention that the new C-Class W205, GLA X156 and S-Class Coupe C217 are not yet in US showrooms, the Stuttgart manufacturer has time to bounce back by the end of the year, so only time will tell who gets the crown in 2014.

^how about some analysis and at least summation instead of a facsimile of the dreadful Carscoops website?

'Even though MINI sales continue to be abysmal in the US'

- this kind of thing sums up that awful, generally anti-German car makes site. Even a lay person knows that MINI is going through the 3rd gen. changeover, and hence there's a sales lull, like that with the C-Class, which partly explains why BMW is ahead of Mercedes-Benz in the mid-months of 2014.

here's a bit of sales information news you're very, very unlikely to see in Cars*****:

the hitherto tiny Maserati effectively out-selling the once upon a time very-big-thing-in-the-US Jaguar, in the US.

'Maserati North America, Inc. continues to break its sales records in North America, today reporting (1,015 units) sold representing the strongest June sales month in the company's history and 228.5% percent increase compared to June 2013 (309 units).'

Maserati has now effectively de-throned Jaguar as the since the 1950s in the US, go-to European alternative to Germany's luxury marques.

First it was BMW in the 70s/early 80s that overtook the once mighty Jaguar Cars in US sales, then it was Toyota's Lexus and to an extent Honda's Acura from the late 80s, then it was VW's Audi in earnest from the 2000s, then it was Porsche from the late 2000s, and now it's the not long ago as good as dead Maserati that is leaving Jaguar in the dirt, not to mention the domestics, Cadillac, Tesla, a reviving Lincoln and to an extent Buick even.

Maserati's phenomenal climb in US sales particularly is one of the less highlighted stories in the US/UK anglophone-dominated mainstream automotive media.

Hasn't stopped Marchionne and his men though from resurrecting Maserati and now driving further nails into Jaguar's US coffin, as its sales become barely 1k/month, over three main product ranges, meaning its not inconsiderable number of US dealerships are shifting 2-3 cars a week, which of course means dealer owners must be queuing up to jump ship to other marques, like Maserati, or jettison the Jaguar side of combined JLR dealerships completely, as it's not just not worth it, even with the dim prospect of the XE's sales in 12 months or so time.

It will be an interesting last few months as the M3 and M4 Coupe , 4er Gran Coupe , X4 , i8 MINI (including the new MINI one and Cooper SD models) have just received their market introduction. Looking ahead there is the added volume of the Active Tourer and MINI 5dr to look forward to and also the new BMW X6 and 2er Cabrio and at the opposite end of the spectrum the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II.

So BMW has no volume sellers coming soon? With only a ~6,000 unit deficit, Mercedes should easily surpass BMW in US sales thanks to the C and GLA.
