Hey folks,
Here to share my 2013 Audi A4 Allroad ownership experience!
I started shopping for another used car in 2021 after my 2011 BMW E90 328i suffered damages from a rainstorm accident (engine hydrolocked and failed, xenon headlights got busted) and insurance deemed it a total loss.
Loved that E90 a ton, relatively modern styling paired with the hydraulic steering and smooth NA i6, plus it was kitted pretty well with the Sport Package and Xenons, which are a rarish combo on 328is.
Some things I was looking for in my budget was a proper blend of functionality, styling, comfort, and reliability, and being a wagon shape is a plus.
Runner ups were E91 328i Wagon, another E90 328i, Audi A4 B8.5.
I test drove a F30 340i, and genuinely did not enjoy it enough than my E90 to justify the high used prices for it. Love the B58 though, and hope to one day own another i6 BMW.
Similarly with the F31 328i/330i, if I was going to lose on steering wheel and i6, much rather go to Audi for the style.
I REALLY REALLY wanted an E91 328i, but low mileage AND LCI examples are so hard to find, their prices have been rising and is just difficult to find. To this date, I would still prefer an E91 328i. I even wanted one when my Allroad got totaled and still couldn't find one, and ended up with another Allroad, will touch up on that later!
I ended up choosing the Allroad, like I mentioned earlier I was willing to sacrifice the NA i6+hydraulic steering combo, for the Audi's style, reliability, and practicality.
However, my Allroad experience has been amazing to say the least.
This is how my Allroad looked at 70k miles immediately within the first month of purchase! Had to lower her on coilovers and get rid of that crossover ride height.
For those wondering why I lowered an "offroad" SUV, the A4 Allroad doesn't have proper offroad equipment, it's literally an A4 Avant with 50:50 AWD and tacked on wide flares (perfect for wider wheels and tires) And the A4 Avant was only sold in the more unreliable B8 guise, not B8.5, in the US.
This is from my first out of state roadtrip I did in my Allroad to Utah! What a mess it was, last day before I was supposed to head out, I had major tire issues and was only able to source mismatched used tires before my trip (for the Audi Service advisors shaking at the thought of mismatched tires on an AWD.. my car did fine, thank you)
Took it up Angeles Crest Highway constantly as I only live 10 minutes away from it, lots of driving in the snow, lots of late night and early morning canyon runs as well.. in the hundreds for sure.
This Allroad saw thousands of miles on Angeles Crest Highway, Glendora Mountain Road, and multiple Malibu canyon roads such as Decker, Tuna, Piuma, if you guys are familiar with such!
And if you're wondering what wheels those are, they are a square set of front wheels from the A90 Supra, fit perfectly! Friend gave them to me for free, can't complain about free forged wheels!
If this looks familiar to you, you know what's up! My first group roadtrip with my car friends, we headed up to SF to hit some mountain roads and explore, and then drove 3 hours north to Point Arena Lighthouse.
This was the lighthouse featured in the Need for Speed movie from 2014, and the area was so beautiful and peaceful.
This is from 1 of 2 track days I did in my Allroad, on semi slick tires! Tracking your car is so much fun getting to push it to the limits, got a 1:31 at Streets of Willow, Willow Springs.
Definitely recommend everyone to hit the track if you are into fast driving, certainly not an alternative to canyons, but definitely an enjoyable experience.
This is from my roadtrip to Oregon, hit Rowena Crest after visiting Multnomah Falls to meetup with a photographer that's also into the driving and tracking community! Great person with a beautiful S2000, and a lot of photography skills too. Oregon was one hell of a drive and I cannot wait to be back.
Unfortunately, this is how my first Allroad's fate ended.
After a whole additional 70k miles, at 140k miles, I was hit by a woman in a rental Jeep Wrangler trying to do a blind uturn around a curve.
Luckily their insurance covered everything but man, felt really shitty to lose it all due to one reckless driver.
Lots of amazing memories made with my Allroad, and genuinely the car has been so dependable. I drove it 70k miles, and it did not burn a single drop of oil and had zero engine problems besides needing to change the PCV Valve.
I would highly recommend this car to everyone, and I hope this can show you why I personally am excited about the Audi B10 Avants return to the US, hope to buy one new in 1-2 years. If only BMW sold the G21/G81 here :/
