2011 Hyundai Equus

Why on earth did they not just call it the Hyundai S-class? It looks just like the FL, inside and out.

It is pretty good looking, but that is to be expected seeing as they blueprinted the S-class and added a bit of E-class.

I can see how selling a 50k car for 30k works, but 80k car for 60k is probably not going to work, especially for luxury cars where brand image is so important. But anyway kudos to them for selling it as a Hyundai and not some fake brand like Lexus.

It's still looks cheap and shit, but they are improving with every gen so kudos to them.

Well I would really like to know what made Hyundai think to try to take on Luxury brands in the first place. I can see if they created a luxury brand like Nissan to Infiniti, but this is just weird.

I think some of you guys are a bit confused. This thing isn't ripping off German cars as much as it's ripping of the current Lexus LS. Sure, there are few design cues here and there, but most of them are Bentley-ish.

If Hyundai were proud of their products, how come they chose to hide their logo on the Genesis and now this? This one doesn't even have a logo on the trunk.

Because the product speaks for itself, and they are keeping the logo away from Badge whores. :D

It is a Mercedes S-class with an Emily on it...

Firstly, this car was primarily created for the Korean/Asian market, much like Toyota would create exclusive luxury sedans (like the Crown) just for the Japanese market.

With the success of the Hyundai Genesis sedan, Hyundai probably just decided that offering this vehicle to other markets would only further improve the Hyundai brand and its image. With that Hyundai have done with the new Genesis Sedan and Coupe, they have made big strides in the right direction, and they are trying very hard to change the negative stigma associated with their brand. By offering a car of this size in the US market, people instantly have to take the brand seriously.

This car obviously won't be a huge success, nor will it steal a lot of sales from more premium brands, but much like the Genesis, it will give Hyundai a good first proper attempt, and definitely improve their brand. A generation ago I wouldn't even consider purchasing a Hyundai car, but if I were in the market for a 3er/C/A4, I'd give the Genesis sedan a VERY good look before I would make a decision. ... the Equus on the other hand...ehh, If I were in the market for a 5er, E or even 7er, S...this wouldn't be on my list...BUT, that's because I'm a car enthusiast.... others who aren't too bothered about brand may actually look at the Equus..and with that price tag, it does have a genuine selling point to differentiate itself.

This is exactly it. It's not like they are seriously thinking that this will take sales away from the S, 7, or A8 or something. They are just bringing this over because some people wanted this, believe it or not, and since it will easily pass all the US regulations then it just makes sense to bring it into another market. They're not pushing this as hard as they pushed the Genesis because Genesis was designed to go after the E, 5, etc., but this is simply designed for the Korean market since they don't have any homebuilt large Luxury car.

I like the black one but hate the silver one at the same time BUT overall ... not bad for a Hyundai.

It will be interesting to see how well it will be received by the U.S. Market. Then again everyone is still pinching pennies, so Hyundai might have a good chance. Just wish they put it other another company though. Build their own lexus or something. To many different cars under one brand seems rather odd.

Its not the amount of cars, but the brand itself. No matter how good Hyundai gets, it still won't ever have the prestige of a Lexus. However, if Hyundai spun off its own luxury brand, like toyota, honda, and infiniti, the cars would have a little more cachet.

It think it is just a matter of time before they do, but they're cars won't measure up. Too much too fast. This Equus is going to flop around like a fish out of water, 60K for a funny looking Hyundai? I don't think so.

I'd never spend more than 30k for a Hyundai. Anything more than that, and I'd buy an entry level MB or BMW.

I hear you...of for me a nice used W211 E-Class of the 07-08 variety.
