2011 Hyundai Equus

I think the ugliest thing about the Equus is that typeface they used to spell the word 'Equus". It looks so Medieval and reminds me of a dungeon for some reason. :eek2:

Its not the amount of cars, but the brand itself. No matter how good Hyundai gets, it still won't ever have the prestige of a Lexus. However, if Hyundai spun off its own luxury brand, like toyota, honda, and infiniti, the cars would have a little more cachet.

Hyundai could have easily had their Lexus, with the right name and marketing behind them. Go back 20 to 30 years ago and Toyota was just referred to as a cheap and dependable car, they they decided to create Lexus.

Now could Hyundai ever build a "Benz" type a company, probably not. Benz has had more then 100 years of experience that Lexus 20 years couldn't even match. I am sure that if Lexus was selling their cars at the same price as Mercedes-Benz then they would be crushed. Infiniti started out the same time as Lexus and didn't have that much success, but look at them now. So Hyundai might have had a chance. Then again to put the Equus and Genesis under the same umbrella as the Hyundai Accent was just stupid IMO.

Yes, it might work...but IMO Hyundai is just doing to much. It's just as bad as if Mercedes- extended themselves to make a Toyota Corolla competitor. Just doesn't make sense (of course the A-class does come close)...which is probably why it's not in the U.S.

Over here we only expect the highest form of excellence from Mercedes.

Hyundai Unveils Long-Wheelbase Equus Flagship

If you were too easily offended by Hyundai--yes, Hyundai--proclaiming its Genesis sedan could duke it out with the likes of Lexus and Infiniti, boy, are you going to be irked.Come next year, Hyundai's taking it one step further. And bigger. And richer. The South Korean automaker has already confirmed that its 2011 Equus flagship sedan will be sold in limited numbers in North America next year--both in standard and long-wheelbase forms.

These are the first shots of the long-wheelbase model, which will go head-to-head to stretched versions of cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Lexus LS.

Like its rivals, the long-wheelbase Equus offers several upgraded features from the normal sedan version, including differentiated exterior designs and longer overall length. The vehicle’s length is longer than major competitors by as much as 12.2-inches, with backseat legroom as much as 14.8-inches longer, as well. To further differentiate it from the standard sedan, the stretch version is equipped with an exclusive horizontal cross-bar radiator grille with an emblem in the center. Both standard and long-wheelbase models share the same powertrain lineup: a 286-horsepower 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 and a 361-horsepower 4.6-liter Tau V-8.

Comfort features include a power-driven footrest, rear seat leg supports, a posture control recliner and a massager. While it hashes out the details, Hyundai will show the Equus at future auto shows. When it reaches dealers at the end of summer 2010, it should feature conservative pricing, which may mean a proportional step up from the most expensive Genesis sedans, somewhere around or above $50,000. Only 100 to 200 dealers will be allowed to sell the car, and Hyundai only expects to sell 1000 to 2000 cars annually while it feels its way around the luxury end of the market.

This has even more LEDs that all models of the Audi line-up :D

Word has it that this Hyundai's name was lost in translation to Korean. Apparently an "x" was left out of the name.

The car was meant to be marketed as a poor Exquus for a luxury car.

There improving every year. They'll get there one day.

I'm gonna predict that they'll have a huge following around 2025 Ha

The stretched version looks just like a Lexus LS460L in those pics.

In this economy anything is possible. Even millionaires are cutting back.

Not to mention the few idiots, who will buy this car and put and S550 badge on it. And yes, their are people that stupid to believe that it's really a Benz.

Call me crazy, but I like the stretched version. :D

HOH...why put Benz badges on this, when you can put: Maybach!

Fleet sales will account for 80% of revenue Hyundai will squeeze out of this car. The car is fully suited for airport taxi duty and for transport business clients across plants and different HQ. 15% of the production will be curtsey of Huyundai partners using it as complimentary business car for executives and board members. And the remaining percentage will be private sales by either delusional car shoppers or old couples fooled into believing that the car is even worth E-Class money.

Although I appreciate Hyundai's efforts, I don't see many people forking over 60k for a Hyundai.

Considering that this car is for the Hyundai's home market, none of the stuff you said makes any sense except for the fleet sales, but even that number is your imagination. You're acting like MB and BMW don't have taxis in Germany or something.

Get out of your western bubble and think from a different perspective for once. ;)

we have a saying in turkey.

İ am not rich enough to buy something cheap.

buy once and the buy best.

Don't want to sound 'unfair' but could the Equus even be mentioned alongside the Germans :t-hands:

"I wanna be like Mike" :D

Actually, I think they should call it "Icarus". :D
