Mazda6 2008 Mazda6 Thread

The Mazda 6 (known as the Mazda Atenza in Japan, derived from the Italian attenzione) is a mid-size sedan produced by Mazda since 2002, replacing the long-produced Capella/626. The 2003 Mazda6 is essentially the seventh-generation Mazda 626, part of the 'G' model code family.
Re: 2008 Mazda 6 Revealed

the rear, however, has strong resemblance to a chrysler car, i forgot which model, but just saw it on the street.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how well the 6's exterior has come together. I don't think they could have done much better.

The interior is another story. I looks good, but the overall impression of quality still takes a backseat to the Honda Accord. And what the hell is up with that HUGE Mazda logo on the steering wheel? On the upside, the gauges look really nice. They nailed 'em.

Awesome design.... i can see abit of lexus in the side proportions but its also a much better looking design then the lexus IS :D

clap clap to mazda on this one

Ditto!

And mind you, this rear looks 100000000000000 times better then E90's...:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

This car will sell like crazy, believe me...;)

:t-cheers:

Re: 2008 Mazda 6 Revealed

Wow, that is a good looking Mazda. I see cues from many other cars here, Altima side profile for example, etc. etc., but you know what, it works. In the Accord/Camry class this one is a standout going by these photos. The wagon even looks the part. Interestingly enough it looks better than many if not all pricer Japanese sedans.

Re: 2008 Mazda 6 Revealed

Do you really, really like the looks of this all-new Mazda 6? Yeah, we do, too. It’s too bad, then, that the car you see here, which will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show, is only for European consumption.

Specific details we like about the Euro car include the multi-element headlamps and taillamps, the protuberant hood (it now dips down below the grille), and the steeply raked roofline. The latter is definitely great-looking, but we worry that it may make the rear seats less than accommodating for tall passengers.

Inside, things are looking good, too. The center-stack controls combine the style of the RX-8 with an ergonomic arrangement that appears to be inspired by the Toyota Camry. That’s no bad thing, especially if the 6 still drives like a Mazda.

Unfortunately, the U.S. model, which may see the light of day at either November’s L.A. auto show or the Detroit auto show in January, will wear different sheetmetal. We're also told that it could ride on a completely different platform that the Euro-spec car. According to Mazda, this is because the North American car needs to “look bigger.” Car buyers, it says, think the current car looks too small in relation to other mid-size sedans.

WHAT!?!?!

We’re not sure how much of the Ford Mondeo is incorporated in the European Mazda 6 platform, but we hope a lot. Either way, Mazda has a pretty good track record of pumping out fun-to-drive cars in spite of the best efforts of its parent company's in-house cost cutters.

For the U.S. market, the next-gen 6 will be offered only as a sedan and five-door hatch. Low demand for the current Mazda 6 Sport wagon, which was discontinued for '08, has rendered it a no-deal for the second-gen 6 in America. (The Continent is expected to be able to purchase a wagon version of their 6, however.)

As for the Mazdaspeed 6, which is also gone for ’08, let's just say it’s on hiatus until the new 6 gets its legs. We see a direct-injection, turbocharged V-6 with all-wheel drive in its future, similar (although probably not identical) to the system found in the upcoming Lincoln MKS. The all-wheel-drive variant will likely appear along with a hybrid within a year of the U.S. version’s debut.

Expect even more acute handling, as well as a choice of more-potent four-cylinder and V-6 engines under the hood, the latter being the corporate 3.5-liter of about 260 horsepower (as found in many other FoMoCo products).

U.S. models will continue to be built at the same plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, that has been building the 6 since the beginning, with the vehicle reaching dealerships in early ’08 as ’09 models.

WOW. If Mazda pulls a Ford on this one... well... they can go pound sand when their sales are in the tank. They had better be bringing this car to the states in roughly the same form. I dare say, this is the best looking volume car they've ever had in their corner.

Re: 2008 Mazda 6 Revealed

Yeah it sucks if true. Finally a Japanese sedan I actually like for its styling, not because it is super reliable and they might not bring it here. Oh well guess I'll keep saving up for a nice Jetta as my "other" car.

Very nice and looks good. Remind me lot of IS250. I think I see a little of RX8 DNA...

As a owner of three different Mazdas in my life , its now fun its not only reliable, now its a good looking car too. :usa7uh:

Re: 2008 Mazda 6 Revealed

This car confirms in my mind the position of Mazda as the design leader of all Japanese brands.:usa7uh:
Only if you consider imitating the German manufacturers to be leadership.

True this car is cut and paste job of styling cues from all across the automotive spectrum (Mercedes CL to Chrysler Sebring to Nissan Altima), but, but, but....it works. This shames all the Accords and Camrys we have to look at here in the U.S. on a daily basis.

The car exterior is really well designed but the interior is not very sexy, i even think that visual quality and appeal dropped from the previous generation to this one.

Current gen Mazda 6 looks good to me, this one even better. Imitating you say? In this case even if it's so, i have nothing against that, as Marcus said: it works!:eusa_clap

:t-cheers:

but if this was a Lexus , this thread would be full of ............ ;)

I think this is miles away from the Lexus style of copying. I second Marcus that this works. Lexus' doesn't ....e.g. look at the IS, I never figured out where that design came from. The butt of the IS is fugly...and the overall exterior seems to have been designed by a 7 year old during vacation time....
