We all know that when a new BMW model is launched, some dealers like to mark up the price, above the MSRP. But, I have never thought that a dealer will actually go as high as $30,000 markup. The CenturyWest BMW in North Hollywood decided to price the new BMW M3 at the "amazing" price of $100,000. The sticker clearly shows the "Dealer Market Adjustment" of $30,000 on top of several options packages, so there is definitely no confusion or misunderstanding there.
Even though the new 2008 BMW M3 has over 400 ponies froman all-new 4.0L V8, I find the markup to be absolutely ridicoulous and I doubt anyone would go for it. From my experience, they will still sell it over MSRP, but only at $5-7k over.

40% markup??? No thank, I would even not fork over that much premium for a Porsche. Only someone really stupid would pull the trigger on that, but I wouldn't mind pulling the trigger on the sales manager for that dealer.

^^ there are people that would buy it just because the money is not a big issue, but they just want the latest and greatest now. I see a lot of dealers are actually selling with no markups at all... they are brand new demos too.

You'd have to be an idiot to pay an extra $30k for nothing. That being said, sadly, there is probably an idiot out there that will pay.

In short it is what they think one is willing to pay in order to have the first M3 on the block. Sadly there will likely be a few buyers that fall for this.

I must say though the car is gorgeous. The local BMW dealer has 3 of them, all with "sold" tags in their windshields. There is something about seeing a car at the auto show vs seeing it at the dealer, the look only gets better.
