The new NA V6 is so popular, that folks in Europe dont want to give it up. The turbo uses 10% more fuel. :)
Looks like MB will offer both E350 and E400 in parallel there.

Mercedes-Benz 3.5-litre V6 specifications

Alongside the new Mercedes-Benz 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8, Mercedes has also released details of a new 3.5-litre V6 engine set to power a varient of new Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Despite being naturally aspirated, the German company says it was built using a modular design, hence it can be configured with turbochargers for future use. Putting out 225 kW and 370 Nm of torque, the biggest difference between the new V6 and the one it replaces is a reduction in the V-angle between the cylinder banks from 90 degrees to 60 degrees.

In layman’s terms the change in design has led to a noticeable reduction in vibration, which further enhances driver comfort.

The engine is expected to make its fist appearance in the Mercedes-Benz S 350. According to figures released by the manufacturer, the S 350 will reduce its fuel consumption to just 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres (CO2 emissions: 177 g/km), a 24 percent improvement over the outgoing V6 (10.0 l/100 km).

It stays NA? I get it. Most are so wrong when talking negatively about the NA 3.5l V6. If the Mercs acceleration number are not on paar with the 335i, it is because of gearing and general weight of the car, not because of the engine itself. The V6 is way more smooth than the FI engines. That is also the reason why Lexus keeps it 3.5l V6. It is an old engine, but they constantly improve it, and lower consumption, emssions, but increase power/torque and performance overall. The engine is also lighter than the FI 6 cylinder engines.

MB put some E400 numbers up so we can compare. :)

Mercedes plots the return of its straight-six engines

I can't wait to SEE this. The next E-Class has to be the most important car like since ever. New engines, new designs are looking better and huge emphasis on interiors now, it has all the makings of a better car than even the S-Class.

F1 engine tech trickling down to road cars? :)

Mercedes Will Use F1 Engine Tech Centre for Road Cars

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it will likely utilise its Formula One engine facility for future road car engine development.

The 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 F1 hybrid powerplants produced by Mercedes AMG are made in the Brixworth, (U.K) facility and now, more road based engine development could start there with the majority of new F1 engine development completed.

“Following the introduction of the new powertrains, Formula 1 is now in a period where technical development is frozen. Normally we would have to look at reducing workforce in line with this cycle. It is necessary because we have to reduce spending,” said Mercedes-Benz head of development Thomas Weber.

“Now with this really qualified team of engineers [at Brixworth], I have some ideas to do some of the advanced engineering studies and advanced development activities, and maybe also production of high-end models. The reason we can play this card is because Brixworth boss Andy Cowell reports direct to me.”

Most importantly, the Brixworth facility now has extensive expertise in the development of hybrid powertrains and consequently, this expertise could funnel down to future hybrid Mercedes-Benz engines. The team there is extremely skilled and was the driving force behind the electric powertrain for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive.

^They are definitely kicking butt in F1, so I don't know what you mean. If you are talking about using F1 technology in street cars, that is not going to happen over night if at all.
