5 Series BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.
I love it more and more inside out only from these low quality pics, so i can imagine what'll happen in 2 days... Sooo looking forward to it. As far as i can see, they didn't f up anything on this car and i hope to be 100% sure once the official pictures are released. (y)(y)

I think it will be obtain especially for the rear. When I'm not wrong the rear pics are very blurred and therefore this pics distort the rear.

The car from this angle looks really stunning even it is not high quality image

Impressions based from these shots:

1. Rear: Something is wrong with those rear lights, there is to much dead space in the rear light, the elements that light up show that it could have been a much more slimmer designed light unit.
Also the bootlid looks amazingly short somehow, which again makes the lights look huge. Im very sad about this, if anything has been great with recent BMWs its the rears, the 7er has a tremendous behind. this does not. And those exhaust tips are a joke.

2. Side profile: I cant judge it, but due to the short rear it might look unbalanced, that side line is hard to judge in this color to, it just looks like it ends or starts out of no where.
And that damn hockey stick is there again. In a lighter form.

3. Front, the head lights seem to have a to pronounced brow, might look good when they are on, off it looks wierd. Is this the M package btw? Weak in that case.
What bothers me the most is the part of the bumper that goes from the inside of the headlight to the other, looks like the grill sits on a shelf.

4. Interior, its the same old story, this will be old yesterday, the competition looks way more advanced, its sad really.

Overall ile reserve my final judgement for better pictures, its a mighly booring looking car though inside and out, remember that this seems fairly high spec to.
I want to say that it atleast isn't ugly, well its not.. but due to the huge rearlights and little real estate in the rear it looks awkward.

Then again I disslike the headlights on the E class strongly to.. so 1-1 in that sense. But the E has a shit load more going on for itself over this 5er.. no doubt.

Let's see what audi comes up with.

Rear lights looks a little weird, and off, in comparison what we saw on spy shots. I think that bad quality of picture, and jpeg degradation, make some kind of halo effect around the light, and like optical illusion, it make rear lights little fatter...but, I will judge after better quality pictures. Everything else, for now, very positive...

At this pic the same like tomazino's profile pic the tail light looks less thick as at the leaked rear pics.

And another one for the comparison:

At this pics we can see the sloping design in direction of the rear door. When we look frontal to the rear and to the tail lights this sloping design is disappeared and give us the impression that the outside of the tail light is a one thick element.

I'm surprised that those pipes don't bother me like they did on the test cars. They suit very well in to the rear bumper, so I'm relieved about that.

Overall, looking good! Can't wait to see videos of it!

As per BMWBlog this pipes are standard for the 540i. I hoped it would be a specification for the M package:
"The 540i model featured in the leaked image comes with trapezoidal exhaust tips, characteristic for high-end models."

I personal prefer the circular pipes or the pipes from the 7-series.

The shape of the rear lights from the side are similar to the previous X6 but just longer/slimmer. Front has little elements of E39 styling in some ways, its not a very exciting looking car, in my opinion abit conservative and somehow I like the looks of the F10 more. It does still look nice and I cant wait to see more clearer pics with darker colours. Interior follows the styling of 7-series but with blackened switches and different air vents.

In regards to your comments about Rear tail light space: The reason it seems there is more dead space is because there are new turn signals on there. Now the section on the boot also lights up for turn signaling. And these leaked pictures don't show well how the tail light bends and blends into the side, kind of like the current F10. I think if you were to see better pictures/videos or even in person, you'll like it. They did a fantastic job, having seen it. To get an idea, look at the new 3 series tail lights or the new X5's. They're mesmerizingly birght, not annoyingly bright.

In regards to the front, I think the head lights appear slimmer than F10 LCI. Though the actual physical dimensions may not be. It could be because the "halos" are now cut in half and make for a "w" and a line into the kidney grill. Again, the new 3 series with LED lights will give you the best idea about it. You really just have to see it in person to admire it, or at least at high quality pictures/videos.

Hahaha

Car journalists: crappier every day

What for a fked up comment. At least the E doesn't look like an extended facelift.

It's a small mistake. They should have written "for the first time, the 5 series comes with optional xDrive and all wheel steering."

To be fair to the journalist, he was writing for an Indian audience where they drive RHD cars, and the 5 Series has not been available in xDrive on RHD cars before.

MB fans calling this car predictable is a bit rich. Especially considering how predictable the E-class was. In fact one could argue BMW has done a better job at differentiation here.

This car addresses all the concerns I had with the F10. And that car aged so gracefully. So this one in my eyes is fantastic. I'm not yet sold on the double shoulder line, but look forward to seeing it in person.

The interior is excellent. Poor 7 series buyers. It looks like a cut and paste.
