Feel free to contribute. Which are the new cars in this class (£140-160k sportscars) that were excluded?

This doesn't need to be about New cars. There is absolutely no representation from Lamborghini, Porsche or even the low price GT-R (which is capable or running with all of these cars other the price).

Then again, there presence isn't needed.

Well, all the other cars in the list are new and in the same segment.

You could start a thread with a poll regarding "Which of these cars, randomly chosen by Highest of High, do you like the most?". :D

Again, you will have to ask jsciales why he didn't included the McLaren. Personally I could care less about the McLaren as I have said time and time again. My thing is it's his poll and his decision. Everyone here is capable of starting their own poll. My thing is why keep complaining that the McLaren isn't here?

Now if this was a magazine comparison then yes, you might want to ask some questions. My thing is why even care? There are several other polls that have the McLaren included. There are good choices in the poll. I think it's great.

Hmm...I would have to go with the SLS because it's just so beautiful. I love the LF-A but it's not as good looking as the SLS. SLS is a beauty while LF-A is a beast, but a beast I love a lot.

1. SLS
2. LF-A
3. F458
4. R8V10

Lexus over Ferrari! Say it aint so! Say it aint so! Lol

458 Italia. Without a nanosecond's hesitation. It's the pinnacle achievement in this group.
[The MP4-12C would fit in here if it'd been included]
Audi R8 V10. So special, so capable, so usable. Did I just say that about an Audi? ;)
Mercedes Benz SLS and LF-A tied for third place. Each has special attributes that are enticing: the SLS looks far better and has much more torque, the LF-A is just an engineering tour-de-force in so many respects. Better cabin too, surprisingly. I'll be happy to toss a coin.

Anyone care to explain why the Lexus is such an engineering 'Tour de Force' as Martin put it? I can't be bothered reading the press material on such a lame lookin car. :eusa_doh:

-4.8-liter 72-degree V10 putting out 560 hp at 8,700 RPM (that's 116.5 hp/liter) and 354 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,800 RPM
Redline: 9,000 RPM

-Titanium valves, connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, dry sump lubrication and a titanium exhaust manifold

-3,263 pounds with a 48/52 front-to-rear weight distribution

-Power-to-weight ratio of 5.8 pounds/hp

-65 percent of the body is carbon fiber

-0-62 MPH (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds

-Top speed of 201.94 MPH

I like the looks of the Lexus and love the interior. The V10 is just F__king awesome and the technology in the car is awesome as well. Body is mostly CF and the engine/exhaust use titanium.

The price might be steep, but when you compare that people were willing to pay 3 times the amount for the Reventon (ie, body kitted Murci with slightly redone interior), I think reading the specs on this car justifies the price.

;)

:t-hands: I'm suprised, but it's your opinion. I still might lose some sleep over your decision though. ;)

Ha ha ha...I bet you're not the only one. Just hearing that V10 is F__king amazing.

I do have an issue with Toyota though. They went with only 6 gears on this car. I'm not saying that more gears are better or anything, but I'm sure a 7spd-Dual Clutch would've been even more better, especially when this car will be going up against the Physics defying GT-R around a track. Though, this car is WAY lighter.

Speaking of Nissan, I would love to see them do an Infiniti version of the GT-R. That way it would be a direct competitor to the Lexus even though the GT-R does the job just as nice.

They thought about doing the current one as the Infiniti version, but they decided not to because unlike the LF-A, the GT-R has a LONG history with Nissan and it would be brand suicide to all of a sudden to a "Infiniti GT-R" would would piss of the loyalists. Infiniti doesn't need a GT-R, but Lexus/Toyota definitely needed a image booster since they haven't made anything but laughable "sports" cars for a long time now...Corolla S? LOL.

Well, as mentioned by a few members in this thread, there are a few cars that are not mentioned in this poll. The most obvious contender is the MP4-12C (sp?;)). However, for £140-160K, you can also add the LP560/Balboni to this list.

That being said, price should not be the only consideration that determines which car one should go for; dynamic prowess is also important for a sportscar, no? This is where cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo and GT2, perhaps even GT3 could come into play. Although I am not Porsche's biggest fan, their heritage and racing history is almost unrivalled and as far as instantly palpable factors like feel and handling are concerned: the 911 is unparalleled.

Of course, you can't mention cars like the 911 and not mention the Dark Knight from Japan, the GT-R - yes, I'm coming out of the closet, I like the GT-R! The one car that you could put unashamed confidence in to run rings around the others and make their price-tags look like random telephone numbers chosen by the bean counters as opposed to reflecting the vehicle's intrinsic worth.

As far as my particular choices in this poll are concerned, no doubt the Ferrari, perhaps even the Mclaren, will obviously be the most fun to drive. The mid-engined layout pays dividends with exquisite steering feel and delicate handling balance - the R8 in these respects lacks that ultimate feel, (although I personally love the car.) Despite these factors, and considering all the cars here and those not mentioned, if money literally was no object, I think the SLS would suit me. Why? Its simple, elegant and so different from all its contenders that it appeals on an emotional level. People love different cars for different reasons; I just prefer the SLS.

As for the LF-A: I don't like this car at all. I'm sorry but the car does nothing for me. I'm not a snob (said the Mercedes fan;)), but this car does not look good and is simply way, way too expensive for what it is. I also personally don't like V10 engines [shock and awe!]:t-hair: I really do not have anything else to add in this respect; I'm so seriously apathetic its not even funny:eusa_thin
