X5 World Premiere: 2010 BMW X5 xDrive40d

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

Another world premiere took place yesterday at the 2010 Leipzig Auto Show. The European-only model, BMW X5 xDrive40d was shown for the first time to media journalists. The facelifted BMW X5 xDrive40d comes with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology following the Variable Twin Turbo principle where the small turbocharger cuts in just above idle speed and the larger turbocharger is activated under higher load.
This superior power unit delivers its maximum torque of 600 Newton-meters/442 lb-ft between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm and reaches its peak output at 4,400 rpm. Extra power of this kind accelerates the BMW X5 xDrive40d to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and the higher level of efficiency is reflected by average fuel consumption of just 7.5 liters/100 kilometres (equal to 37.7 mpg imp) in

1. Big exhausts signals big emissions.

2. There are very few production vehicles that need more than that.

This is the version I would get, preferably in X6 guise.

Can't they just make it a little bit bigger for the sake of overall appearance, think faux exhaust.:D

Actually it is Sparkling Bronze.
This is also an exterior colour option on the forthcoming new X3.

The same car was shown in Geneva which was it's then... World Premiere.
In Leipzig it is having it's Deutschland Premiere.

But a 740i for example did get the big exhausts even though it's an I6 engine..

Well, both for that matter. 740i and 740d have a big exhaust and 'small' engine....

Must be a 7er thing....:eusa_thin

It could be, but the 7er maybe needs the status with big exhaust, X5 not so much...

This is the 3L right. Scott why dont BMW use this turbo tech in petrol engines?

Why would you want this turbo tech in the petrol engines? The petrol single turbo N55 engine has Valvetronic and is as state of the art as a turbo petrol engine can get....

Siko: it's European only sadly.
I don't know why, since I read in the automotive sales section that the diesel X5 is doing great in the U.S

I never said I wanted it in petrol engines. I'm just curious as it's meant to almost completely eliminate lag and it works very well. Wether or not it's better than the current system, I dont know. :t-hands:

Good looking car...

In order to get the bigger exhaust tips (same as on the 50i model), one would have to order the M-package...

At least that's what it said in the brochure of the LCI M-package...

With the 40d's excellent performance I have to agree it needs more beefy pipes i.e. 4.8i pipes to distinguish it from the lesser diesels :t-cheers:
