I know these are technically in different segments, but they share several similarities: 2-Doors, Flagships, and similar prices, etc.

If you were to hypothetically or realistically *Buy* (not "take") one of these, which could it be? This doesn't include AMG, M or 911 Turbo, just the standard versions with normal Options (Premium Packages, Sport Kits, etc.). Considering this is "What would I Buy" Poll, the subtle price differences should also be weighed into your choice.

For me, I love them all, at this time, I gotta pick the 911, though that could change when I see more of each (and see the SL in real life), etc. The SL would be in second, unless it completely blows it IRL (which it partially might), and the 6 Coupe with M-Pack is interestingly in 3rd but at the same time the one I feel that could move to 1st more often and easily than either of the other two (considering they'd shift around).

991 S

walks the line of GT and sports car just perfectly. Light, powerful, and a uniquely formatted compared to anything out there. Rear-engined and flat-six? That's my ticket.

Agreed. ^ The unique nature of it really benefits it here as well, IMO.

This makes the 911 sound like a luxury coupe, but it isn't. The SL is the most magical here for me, but the 6 and the 911 look much better, but overall I still want the SL.

From what I've been reading on the 911 Forums, actually the new 911 is really a hybrid of Luxury and Sports (without sacrificing in the Sports dept). But no, it isn't as utilitarian or luxury-car oriented as a 6 or SL, even though the SL is kind of its own rendition of being a hybrid of many things that would confuse any other car.... yet work just right as an SL.

I just came across a new Owner who posted this pic. Made me ecstatic as I have been trying to find more picture of White 991's (gotta keep with the white!), and it's just really the answer to my asking of all car manufacturers to please make me something TIMELESS! You can't put a year on this thing.... as much as I might love the SL, there's definitely a "Year xxxx" tag written all over it, IMO.

As much as I hope that this new 911 will keep with the strong 911 resale value, I hope initial depreciation will be significant enough to get me a "reasonable" entry point in the somewhat near future, as prices are just nuts when you Option them out.

If it was money coming out my own pocket, then with out question it would be a 911 matching the pic you just posted. For me it provides the luxury amenities of the others just in sportier package, and that balance my not be felt with the other two. Perhaps the SL to some degree, but the design is still an issue for me so I would skip it on vanity alone. With the 6er on the other hand I have no real issues with it's design although I find it to be pricey, and for the money I think the M5 would be a better choice with in that line up. Curious to why you left the R8 out? Or is it that you're considering buying one of these three for your next car?

Yeah, I'm considering these if I decide to part with my car when the Lease is up. The R8 is a bit compact for me (I'm 6'5), and I thought it's a lot more expensive (entry price) than these.

I agree, as well. Currently if this played out like I said above, the 911 is the only thing that truly has me thinking "I want it" in an almost absolute sense.

Honestly not the easiest of choices! This time around the 6er floats my boat, still difficult decision because of the Porsche.

Well if i'm after pure handling then the 991 but i'm not,so the SL is for me..pure class.:)

K-A you are asking a difficult question and I suppose it depends greatly on whether it's your sole mode of transport or a second car.

For me if it were my only car then the Porsche would be out regardless of how much superior a drivers car it was, it's too firm for my roads and seats don't support my back properly. So it's a fight between the SL and 6er, not a fan of either's looks but I feel the SL would offer a better balance of ride, luxury and specialness.

If it were something for the weekend or special occasion then solely the Porsche because each drive will feel special regardless of the length of the journey.

That's a good point. Ideally, I'd like a 911 and a DD, I'd imagine in a year or two a new Passat would be in the low teens, and is a very safe and boring DD type of car (I'd move on to be quite the VAG head wouldn't I :D). However, considering the 911 is already much more than my rationale side can fathom spending on a car, that adds another expense. It looks like I have another reason to keep that fire lit under my a$$ to keep on my grind, lol.

I however did read on that same Message Board, guys talking about how the new 911 is almost too "livable", and seems like it's meant to be anything but garaged and made into a "weekend car". For me, considering the size of cars I truly feel comfortable in, no way would I want a 911 to be my sole car. I drive an E-Class right now and I want a DD so I can keep myself enjoying that on just the "nice days" (we have a lot of those, so the car would be well utilized even if I did have a Beater right now :D) already, so you can only imagine....

The only guy that considers the latest 911 as almost too liveable has lower than normal expectations of comfort. lol

Considering you are a Merc man maybe the SL will suit you best of all.

What will I be using the vehicle for? As a Weekend car, 911. As a a top down cruiser, SL. as a canyon carver, 650i.

Never really liked Porsche actually. I find the exterior design boring, and... I don't know, just not for me. The SL is very nice, but sometimes the front ruins the car for me (except the SL 63 which looks amazing). So it's only logical that I'd take the 6-Series. Such a beautiful vehicle. Looks much better with M-Pack though, but the design is so good that it's actually not a "need".
