Regional Where Have you Been? (Europe)

Sweden: Every possible place worth visiting around where live, Malmö, Gothenburg, Dalarna and a few other places.

Norway: Oslo, Trysil and a few other places.

Denmark:Copenhagen, Helsingör and lots of other places.

Germany: Berlin, Münich, Stralsund, Hamburg and alot of other places. Also driven through the country countless of times.

Switzerland: Some city, don't remember which, and passed through the country.

Austria: Vienna, Zell am See, Salzburg, Nauders, and passed through the country a lot of times.

Croatia: Rovinj and the islands around, and some other places.

Italy: Been there around 20 times so it's hard to remember al the places. But Milan, Rimini, Modena, Rome, Venice and alot of small villages.

France: Paris Airport.

All I can think of right now.

I want to visit Holland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Finland, Czech Republic and I wouldn't mind going to a few more places in Italy, or going to back to Croatia. Which I've promised :D

Hmm. I've visited Sweden countless of times (ditto for Norway, but all it takes for either is one visit to Treriksröset :D) but never south of Stockholm. Maybe I should check out that area some time. ;)

I've been to:

Austria (Vienna, Salzburg and driven through)
Denmark (Copenhagen)
England (London)
Estonia (Tallinn, numerous times)
France (Paris)
Germany (Berlin, Potsdam, Nürnberg and driven through + Frankfurt airport :D)
Greece (Rhodes and couple of other islands)
Italy (Rome, Venice)
Netherlands (I know the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport very well :D)
Portugal (Madeira)
Spain (Costa del Sol, Malaga, Granada, Cordoba)
Sweden (Stockholm about 20 times)
Switzerland (Can't remember the names of the places...)

Where in Europe have you traveled, lived, or just passed through.

Any particularily good stories or photos to share?

Where would you like to go?

I have been to the UK, Paris and Switzerland. That's all... My parents went on a backpacking trip to the WHOLE of Europe during their honeymoon. Lucky them!

Well, the only good story I know is that I went to UK and I ate only Indian food there. It was so good. :D

I wanna visit Sweden, Germany, Italy and so many more countries... Europe is a very cultured place and its high level of development in so many areas intrigues me.

(the benefits of being in the army - see the world, get bitten by gnats etc)

Lived in:

Germany (I'm really worried now because I've forgotten the name of the place. bugger)

France - admittedly only six months with a flatmate but still good fun.

Russia - lived in Smolensk for over three years. 'Twas OK apart from the fact your nipples froze if you stepped out of your front door.

I'd like to go back to Russia sometime actually - fascinates me.

OK, as I live in the UK, I'll start with that. I'll also try to add my personal opinion of the "driving" conditions, as well as the general opinion of the various places.

UK - Scotland: (most places, including Shetlands and Western Isles, but not Orkneys, nor some of the smaller islands). Driving roads are generally excellent, and the Scots are undoubtedly the best of the UK drivers. I don't think Scotland needs any general explanations.

UK - Northern Ireland: (mainly the western areas of the province [well, actually all over the province, but I was only about 3years old!!!], including Derry, Strabane & Enniskillern). Good driving roads, good countryside, and generally friendly people.

Republic of Ireland: All over really, appart from a few of the central inland towns. The roads range from OK, to truely shocking - and avoid the "Ring of Kerry" as the numerous tour busses never give way, and straddle the white centre lines without a care in the world. Generally, the people are extremely friendly, with one blatant and scary exception of County Clare (wierd scary spooky interbreds!).

UK - Wales: All over (I can't think of a single town I havn't visited). There are some great driving roads, and the pricipality is generally a very picturesque place. The "locals" in some areas can sometimes be very rude and unhelpful to the "English", and also to any other outsiders.

UK - England: I've been to most areas in England, though with a couple of noteable exceptions (Surrey, some parts of Lincolnshire, and some areas of Lincolnshire, & IoW). Some of my fave areas (in no particular order of preference) - Northumbria (great scenery and driving roads), Lake District, Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire & Hampshire. Areas to avoid: Cornwall (some lovely quaint scenery, but roads are shyte, and seem to be permanently gridlocked).

Denmark: Around the Esbjerg and Arhus/Randers areas. Lovely country, good beer, OK roads, and extremely friendly people (particularly the women ;) ). Would definately like to see more of Denmark, and particularly Copenhagen.

Netherlands: All over really. I particularly liked the Drenthe, and along the coast. Roads generally good to excellent, though driving in central Amsterdam was not particularly pleasurable. The Dutch are an extremely friendly bunch!

Belgium: Not spent too much time here. Mainly Brugges (didn't do anything for me) and Brussels (OK). The roads seem to be quite good, with reasonably proficient and well-behaved drivers.

France: Basically all the north and west coastal areas (the channel and atlantic). Some of Pas de Calais (the channel ports, particularly Dunkerque really are aweful, but Amiens is nice, as is Fourmies), all of Normandy (Rouen v.nice), Brittany (Brest is best :eusa_danc ) and Loire (Le-Mans needs no further explanation, suffice to say that you can go flat-out on the public part of the circuit, and St Nazaire is interesting). All of Poitou-Charentes (Angouleme, Poitiers and Rochefort are all particularly nice). Some of Limousin. Nearly all of Aquitane (Biarritz was a huge disapointment, but Bordeau and the Landes forests were nice). All of Midi-Pyreneese (all stunningly gorgeous, with Pau being exceptionally stunning), and Languedoc-Roussillon (Carcassonne deserves an exceptional mention, as does Millau for the bridge, and the now quaint town. Montpellier was a nightmare, and gave up in the end). Also the northern fringes of Champagne, Lorraine and Alsace (Nancy was beatiful, and Strasbourg was a sh!t-hole). Never been to the Rhone-Alps, nor the Provence/Cote D'Azure areas, so they are on my "must do" list. The french roads are generally excellent, as are the drivers.

Andorra: Just like a morph of southern France and nothern Spain. Good duty free shopping. Some roads OK, some shyte. Plenty of tower cranes.

Spain: to add

Germany: to add

Austria: to add

Switzerland: to add

Italy: to add

Sardinia: to add

Morocco: to add

Welcome Teutonic_Tamer, good to see another member from the UK!

Have you ever been to East Anglia, that's where I'm from!:D

You forgot to add the fact that 99% of our drivers are absolutely hopeless on the roads.:D

Honestly - you must've seen it compared to abroad; I go out to the shops here and I'm lucky not to get shunted by a tailgater or murdered by a road-rage-fanatic.

I'll not even start on speed cameras...;)

It's great living here, isn't it!;)

I agree especially in Germany, people's lane discipline there is impeccable, while here, people sit in the outside lane going 60mph!

Italy
England
Holland
Turkey (if it counts lol)

Loved it (must be because of the coooold winter weather...I hate the heat and humidity here in OZ)!

Turkey was amazing and London truly is one of the worlds great cities.

Ahhh, but I didn't finish my post! My 'puter froze, so I quickly submitted what I'd typed. I've now added some more!

Yeah, couldn't agree more.

OK, not every English driver is a shyte incompetent muppet, but those who are really do drag the side down to a shocking level. Having just got back from a month in Germany/Austria/Italy, all it takes is one knob-head to sit at 70 in lane 3 (when lanes 1 and 2 were empty), and repeatedly refuse to pull over, and it really messes things up. :t-banghea :t-crazy2:

Hey Teutonic_Tamer, just a short note, introduce yourself in this section. I know a lot of people would welcome you with open arms... I know I would. Just looking at your collection of cars makes me melt. Two cars from VAG which resides in my dream car list. Just amazing.

I have been in Sweden,Switzerland,Spain,England and for a few minutes in Germany when we entered the German boarders and uturned to Switzerland.

I would like to bring to your attention that Macedonia is the ancient name of Thesaloniki,a city at the north part of Greece, hometown of Alexander the Great. That name is wrongly claimed by Skopia and bilateral talks are still under way.The proper name to be used is FYROM.
