What do you do on your spare-time?

I understand what your saying klier but it all depends on how well the player
processes native-resolution on the disc. I know which companies make the best DVD players.

I still find it hard to believe the stand-alone Blue Ray DVD players will start in the $500 dollar range. When new technology is introduced to the market it`s starts out being very expensive. Take the DVD recorder for example
Thay were more than $1,400.00 4 years ago. Now you can get one for as little as $199.99.

Bluray stand-alone players have been on the market for several months now and they can be found for a mere $2000. The most cheapest one will probably come after the launch of the PS3 which will the device to introduce the mass to bluray.

But if Blu-ray is a high end video format, then why would people want to skimp to view it? I would have thought that anyone who wants to just view anything would stick to cheaper (player and media) DVDs, and anyone who is serious would buy a standalone Blu-ray player, not watch movies on their gaming consoles.

That said, there's always a middle group. People who were going to buy a PS3 anyway and then get the opportunity to try out the new format.

I`ve been looking around for stand-alone Blue-Ray players and I have not seen any as of yet here in the US. Sony and Panasonic plans on releasing
Blue Ray DVD recorders next year! The Sony will cost $3,800.00!

Snake-Vargas raises a good question. I wouldn`t buy a PS3 to view my movies. I would stick with the stand alone player which would deliver
a better quality picture.

I refuse to support blu-ray or HD-DVD until the companies has come up with a unified format(will never happen) or if there comes out a player that can suppoert both formats. This whole next gen Disc war is silly and the customers are giong to be the ones losing out. Still there is no hurry to go and rush out for a bluray player since there will keep on coming out movies on DVD-discs for the next 10 years. Just look at how the VHS is still alive, there are still some bastards who refuse to upgrade and get a DVD player. On top of that it is quite pointless to buy a bluray player if you don't have a high definition TV. But still some peoplelike GTA has got that covered.

Hi Luw, just thought I'd post this from the blu-ray website.

Oct 19, 2005 - HP Drives Format Compatibility for High-Definition DVDs

HP today announced that they would like to see mandatory managed copy and iHD adopted by Blu-ray Disc to try and bridge the differences between Blu-ray and HD-DVD. The company has formally appealed to the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) to include these technologies as part of its format specification to help create a seamless experience throughout the digitally connected home. The move reflects HP's desire to ensure that consumers aren't forced to choose between competing HD formats for DVDs. "We know now that there's going to be a standards war," said Maureen Weber, general manager of personal storage at HP. "Our goal is to minimize its impact. The bottom line is that we're still very committed to Blu-ray, but we want to protect our consumers."

Just to say, that on Saturday I went to Shiefield for the national lifesaving finals. This includes Ireland, Scotland and Wales, as well as England. The area is split up and you have to get through smaller competitions to get to the finals. I was repesenting the east, and came 3rd out of 16 in the UK in my pair. We came first in one of the sections, which means I'm the 3rd best lifesaver in the 15-17 year old age group in the uk!

Panasonic is still top-dog when it come to Plasma TVs! I just bought this issue
from Consumer Report magazine today. Good job Panasonic!!! :t-roses:
