This is an indelible car in my memory.

It won't be outdated even now.

The exterior was a beauty, but the interior was a mess and got outdated very quickly and the pre-FL U.S spec looked absolutely terrible.

I'm sorry you disagree with me @Rolf but come on... You gotta agree with me that the U.S spec version looks terrible with those headlights.

Sorry but totally disagree on the interior of the W126. It is one of the best interiors of any car from the 1980s. Not many cars of that time have the same level of build quality and design and the car is rock solid and timeless. If you compare its competitors from that period, most of them now would have cracked dash tops, broken switches or handles and cracked and faded leather and cloth upholstery. The W126 would still look have everything looking good if the owner took care of it and also they stood the test of time and can still be reliable up to 500000km without having the engine opened up.

In that respect I do agree. The US spec cars had terrible lights with the yellow split lenses and also longer bumpers.

My favourite dashboard of the time is definitely the one in the BMW E30 3er.

Very good point you making. Mmmm very tough choice but this would probably come a close second to the W126 in my books. My family owned a 1986 E30 318i when I was in my teens and I loved driving that car. The dashboard was fantastically designed, ergonomically perfect and had a solid build and lovely wrap around center console. I really like those sturdy and unique upward rotating vents and also the superb instrumentation with classic red illumination at night. The E30 had its flaws probably the biggest one been its lack of space, it was very cramped in the front and back had virtually no legroom for tall people. But boy it was a nice car to drive. I do miss that car.

I got more lambasted for criticizing the dashboard of the W126 than calling COVID-19 the Wuhan Virus. LOL!!!

Jeez... Sorry guys for having a different opinion about the 126's dashboard. :icon_redf

The 560SEC was one of my dream cars when I was a kid. I remember in Jan 1987 it was on the front cover of our local CAR Magazine in South Africa as having its first road test. It was compared even to the 228kw Porsche 928S auto at the time and the 560SEC was faster than the Porsche!!! 0-100km/h in 6.78sec against 7.32sec to the 928 although its top speed was a fraction slower at 247kmh (limited) to the 253kmh for the 928.
