Passat VW Passat - my test drive

Now i 'm confused. I thought Giannis was talking about Gold exterior color ...or not?

lol, let's clear things up.
By gold, i mean the white beige colour that VW offers that looks like gold under some circumstances. Actually the fact that it is metallic paint makes it look like gold.

Both VW and Volvo offer that colour, as well as BMW and MB. I am not sure about Audi. But one thing is sure. It looks great.

edit; Beige Canvas. Audi offers such colour and this is it's name.

......Interestingly, there was a VW Phaeton there. The salesman said it was the only one in Australia, when they were thinking of bringing it in. Supposedly it's the director's car. Took a look through the window, and it's a nice car inside, from what I can see. Quite neat. Not a conclusive experience, I can see why some people are surprised why such a car isn't doing so well, concluding that it must be because of the VW brand.
.....
Sorry about the late arrival but just discovered the thread. Real nice review SV, I enjoyed reading it; thanks...:t-cheers:
I have not driven the latest models but two years ago when visiting extended family in South Africa where one relation has a VW agency, I got to drive several models. I have also owned a Golf in the early 80's. These cars are fantastic. There's nothing negative that I can think about them. Probably best value money can buy for a car used for daily driving.

Yeah, I liked the Passat. I'm almost sold, but hey, it's not my money. It would probably be smart to look at some other cars just to see what's out there, anyhow.

As for the Accord Euro, umm, it was pretty good, but the Passat surpasses it, IMO. For a similar price, in the Accord Euro Luxury you get standard leather, sunroof, and xenon headlights, but honestly I don't really care for those items.

On the other hand, the Passat has air conditioning vent adjusters for the centre vents in the console, it actually has rear vents in the rear of the console, it has better boot hinges that are shielded so as not to crush objects, it has a better trip computer (I think), 8 airbags (vs. 6), etc., plus you can get seat position memory, which I like. Smaller things that aren't easily put in advertising, but things that, for me, make a difference to someone with an interest in cars.

This is very interesting SV... I guess we're seeing the attention to detail the Germans execute excellently in where Honda is lacking.

Well, Mirage, glad to see you in this thread. I'm pleasantly surprised by the Phaeton - maybe it was just because of its rarity in Australia (I've seen more Rolls Phantoms here than Phaetons, if you want to put it that way :D ). The interior looks well detailed, and well appointed. The overall car looks quite sleek. You've got yourself a very nice car, then. Still, I guess that VW out to be more realistic about what people are willing to pay for a VW, at least for the near future.

Good Review Snake :usa7uh:

On to the Phaeton was it silver with VW1 as its number plate ?

Heres info on VW1 http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2580582

Yep, it's that one. The salesman told me it was being driven by a director of some sort.

Btw:
