"Volvo will stop selling R-badged performance cars after the last 2007 models are sold, the company has stated. "There was a lot of passion from our owners," executive vice president of sales Doug Speck told Automotive News. "But the investment to make for that side of business, for the return we get, just wasn't good enough."

I'm not surprised at all. Volvo screwed themselves in the ass with this one. The "R" models are IMO too compromised. It you're gonna develop a high performance model then go all the way instead of creating something with is partially sporty. Although the S60 R rocks 300hp is still has the same dead steering as the normal Volvo and totally lacks feedback and then there is the long distance cruiser type of suspension which Volvo didn't modify at all.

The S60 R is a joke an one is better off buying a 330si or even a 330. It was out performed on the ring by the Focus ST with something like 6-8sec(If my memory doesn't fail me).

With that being said the majority of the R model buyers have been hard core Volvo fans who are willing to pay close to 50k for a Volvo sedan.

Yeah these R models really weren't up to the standard set by the German/Japanese competition and traditional Volvo buyers couldn't have cared less about them so there was really no place for them. This means Volvo can focus more on their roots I guess.

In Sweden a S60R costs more than a BMW 335i so I think its obvious what you buy instead :)

lol what else did the expect..and still with those high prices its not profitable enough for them..
well in that case..better lay off the R then..:D

I have seen more Ferrari or Lambos than these "R" model Volvos. I think i have seen 3 of them in total. 2 sedan, sliver and light green, and 1 black wagon. I was surprised that people bothered to spend near $100k AUD to buy one when they know it won't offer them a decent driving experience, and these cars don't really have a resale value at all.

I wish they had the money or the time or be willing to make the R division what it really should be... Sad thing for a Volvo owner but this is how things should be..

^HAHAHAHHA lol at the start i didnt get it..i was like ***..hahah

They did have time, and the money but they screwed it up. Safety and comfort was placed before handling and performance.

The R's really didnt do it in the performance so its understandable why they are now being dropped. I liked the sporty looks of them though. I would really of liked to have seen them make a c 30 r, that would have been a hot hatch

This is quite sad. I always had some hope that in the near future Volvo would really make the R division shine.

I actually quite liked the S60R, although it looks like I'm the only one!

I don't think the sporty R label really fits volvo though!

The S60 R was very dull to drive with absolutely no personality. That said, it was a nice package (stateside), prices were decent and you got a nice looking ride with great equipment for a cheaper than the competition price.

I think there's high probability with the commitment of senior management and the resources, that Volvo could indeed produce a memorable high performance car that holds ground in the segment. Like I said, it's the commitment and resources that are needed to make this happen. I wish people around here would stop bashing Volvo, they don't make that bad of cars as some of you make it sound.
