According to the official NHTSA-ordered recall, Volvo will install new software to fix speed controls on the recalled cars. Models affected include the 1999-2002 V70, and C70 coupes and convertibles; the 2001-2002 S60; the 1999-2000 S70 and V70XC; 1999-2001 S80; and the 2001 XC70. The recall number is 06V441000.

Reuters reports that Volvo spokesman Christer Gustafsson said the automaker has fixed the speed control problem on about 165,000 vehicles of the recall total after sending out notices to owners in March.

THAT'S WHY PEOPLE SHOULD BUY TOYOTA'S. TOYOTA INVENTED THE WORLD "RELIABILITY" AND THEY'LL NEVER BREAK DOWN OR NEED TO BE RECALLED!!!

:t-crazy2:

:D

this is exactly the principle of a friend who owns a Corolla :D :D

You can tell him that last night, you were extremely tired and would have fallen asleep at the wheel if it weren't for you driving a BMW, Benz etc. :D :eusa_danc

If you were driving a Toyota.... :D

Rub it in. :t-cheers:

He has a 1991 Corolla, which is more reliable than you can ever dream of. But it's a Toyota :D
I can't deny that it's not reliable, but even if you can't get 1% driving fan from your car, then it's like riding a supermarket carriage. I can even have fun with my Volvo...

I don't see how "car is fun" vs "car is reliable" are mutually exclusive qualities in the slightest. People in the states buy Hondas and Toyotas en masse, because folks need a car that runs and won't cause them trouble above all else.

Anecdotally, a friend of ours has an XC90 that is just out of warrenty and is costing her a small fortune in repair costs.

People my age can face financial ruin when they have to pour good money after bad because they bought a lemon of a car. No shame in driving a Corolla for the sake of self-preservation (despite it being one boring-ass car).

I agree but there is a difference between someone saying "i drive this Toyota cause i can't affort a Mercedes/Audi/BMW" and "Toyota is the best car maker in the world and i will never buy a Mercedes/Audi/BMW cause they are unreliable".

I don't think anyone that owns a Volvo really understands what this means, at all. "Limp Home mode" simply decreases your speed, to allow the vehicle to operate at "safe speeds", so should something happen it won't cause extensive damage or harm. Personally I don't think it's that big a deal, just a large number of cars happen to be recalled. My car is due for an oil change this week, so I'll inquire about the recall just the same.

I've driven some Toyota's in the past, and they're good cars, but the saying is true: they're not very exciting. There was no passion that went into the design and engineering. They just build a good reliable car for the masses and boom, that's it.

We (enthusiasts) want more than that. :t-cheers:

Good ol' RWD 200- and 700-series just keep going and going. :D No problemo.

At the same time how's Ford doing by they way?
