Hot! Volkswagen: What's Next

The hood line is disappointing. The concept has a nice shutline like the current MK8 Golf. I would have thought it would have been even easier to do in an EV and get past pedestrian regs with no engine there but I guess not.

That's most likely done for the frunk though I guess. BMW is doing the same for the NK cars.

I agree. If I was 18-24 and got my licence and was looking forward to adventures, nothing screams the opposite of freedom like the range anxiety of a 190mile EV. During winter, the range will drop by 25-30%.
Exactly.
Generally those cars make more sense than a big saloon, as an EV.

It's a city car not a lets go on an adventure car. My mini has less range than this, I've not once though I wish it had more range.

Without wanting to get into yet another debate about EVs, what experience do you have living with an EV? Because from your regular comments it seems you have zero.

I have stayed with family in the US where I lived and dailies their Tesla Model S. Easy experience. Big American house with a garage the size of a 2 bed room in the UK. No issue with charging at home.

However, the experience would be different if I was flat sharing or renting and have to rely on public charging infrastructure. What I don’t know is the extent to which the experience of using public chargers is improving. FYI I’m not an EV hater but don’t do believe that ICE options should still exist for entry level car buyers.

Then why are you talking about range anxiety when the reality is you have no idea? It's just a tired, old trope that people who have no actual experience with BEVs repeat ad nauseum. File it away with BEVs catching fire.

My view would be the same if the next Polo was an ICE but only had 190mile range.

An ICE with 190-mile range is a lot more impractical than an EV with 190-mile range. This fundamental thing is something range-obsessed people continually fail to grasp.
Correct. At least with an EV. If you can charge at home, you don't have to worry about starting the day with a detour to the petrol station :)

It's context-specific. I don't see how an EV with 190 mile range would be more practical for someone living in an apartment complex without their own charging station. In that context it would just be factually untrue, as the ICE with the same range could be filled up within 2 minutes at any gas station on your route. On the other end of the spectrum, if you live in a house or apartment complex with charging stations, or have charging possibilities at work, then yes, owning an EV with the same range would be plug-and-go for you.

I suspect the statement was made on the basis that some of the places you're leaving the car when going about your day will have charging available, therefore you're not doing anything out of your way at all, where as having to go to a petrol station would be considered a separate task.

I'm sure for some people this would be the case, just as for others it doesn't really hold up. Like if your local grocery store happens to be a petrol station... you just fill-up, go in, pick up whatever you need, pay, and go - it's not really a separate task.

I like this.

Ditto.

Wow ! The Germans are firing on all cylinders (electrodes) with new SUV offerings at the IAA Mobility 2025. The BMW iX3, M-B GLC EQ, Porsche Cayenne-e and this. The famine appears to be over. Brought to an end by a buffet of exciting new products. Mahlzeit !

...I cannot say that I really get Thomas' beef with the Audi Concept C. He really seems to have a major, quite theatrical hang-up with this car, especially the front shield. Sure, the front shield is polarizing, but otherwise ? The Audi Concept C is one damn competent piece of automotive designcraft IMHO. Inside and out.

It is a separate task though, unless you stick the nozzle in your car and then go do your shopping while it's filling the tank.

And you know as much as I do, *most* people don't do their shopping in a petrol station shop. They pick the odd item up. *Most* people go to actual supermarkets. And supermarkets are just one of many places people could be going.

Maybe I should have filmed my holiday trip around the UK and back to Holland a few weeks ago. It would have highlighted how it was actually quicker in my EV than it would have been in my ICE.

for now its just an concept...so that front can be a bit different
