Volkswagen Concept Pickup (Robust)

This is a very big cake VW are trying to take a bite off. Toyota's pickups are well established on the market. People love them because of their durability and pricetag. Although I like the front end of this VW pickup the rear end is terrible. It's as if the front and the rear has been designed by two different design departments.

Considering the Toyota Hilux did top the sales chart once this year, there is certainly a big market for this VW in Australia, however I am not sure if VW has that reliable, durable and cheap to maintain reputation that Toyota enjoys in Australia.

True but VW does have a name here and if the product is as good as the hype then it should sell well.

VW are targeting a very modest 100K units per year.

I think the front design was a late inclusion; remember W. Da Silva woved his magic on all the projects after the Bernhard/Gunak era ;)

It doesn't look like a VW.

However, it's not the first VW pick-up, remember the last Hilux was also sold under the VW name on some markets (just like the MB Sprinter is sold under the VW name too)... Only Europe I believe.

Called the VW Taro, it's an unmodified Toyota Hilux.

Was often a low, 2WD version

Really??? I thought the whole point of the car was to rival Toyota on the US market.

Yes its true VW designed a Pickup not for America; it was not even in the plans, designed fully by VW Nutzfahrzeuge (Commercial Vehicles).

Target countries are South America, South Africa, ASEAN markets, Australia and some European markets; (China and India possibly in the future).
