The "design" wasn't the main reason for choosing the A1. It just fitted in with what I needed perfectly in terms of the way it drove. It slots in between my Ford Ka and the R8 V10. It's amazing that such a small and relatively cheap car can cover such a wide gap inbetween the two extremes in my garage. I'm sure the Mini would be more fun to drive, but I don't need that in this car. I have the R8 for the thrills. I have the Ka for leaving at the station or going to the dump. But the A1, especially with the luxuries of sat nav, cruise control and big, comfortable seats, does every other job I need of it, be it going to the shops or driving 1,000km across Europe. It felt virtually the same on the motorway as the A4 I drove the other week. Except it's much cheaper to run and much easier to park. The 1.2 engine feels twice as strong as the 86hp claimed in the brochure. A truly wonderful achievement and it got a sale out of me when I just popped in for something else. In fact, buying the car saves me money hiring cars when I drive to the UK. It was a no brainer.
I'm very familiar with the Mini Cooper as my mum had one for a number of years.
Now, I can completely agree with you that you've made the right choice
