Not exactly. Before R intorduction new ML sells over 3k monthly. After R has been introduced, ML sales went down (with exception of December 2005).
Here: http://home.att.net/~fdmeloan/Mercedes-Benz_Sales.pdf

Look at the numbers for the ML this time last year (944 units), no where near 3000 units a month, and this was long before the R-Class went on sale in Sept 2005. The previous M-Class hadn't sold 3K a month for quite some time before the R-Class came along so that statement about the R cutting into the M-Class sales isn't true. The M-Class has so been a hit for Mercedes since its introduction for the 2006 model year.

It is amazing to me how some draw so many (negative) conclusions from just one month of sales. The E-Class is likely slowing down production for a change over to the FL model. The C is just plain old, what else do you expect?

Don't act like we're just making up opinions based on one month. This is a trend, the E-class has been falling for almost over a year now. And as I said, yes the C is older, but it's not like it's ready for replacement. Even when the 3 series was replaced it couldn't even touch it.

The CLS didn't take many (if any) sales from the E-Class last year. One month isn't going to tell you anything so conclusive as that.
ok, denial

How could the R-Class take sales away from the M when the M posted a huge gain for the month of Feb in the U.S.? They're both up so where are the sales being taken from? That Feb sales total for the R-Class is nearly the same number they posted in Dec 2005, which is always a big month for MB due to special leases.

what are the figures for january?

Both the CLS and E are down so how is the CLS taking sales from the E when they're both way down from Feb 2005?

M

who is making decisions based on 1 month figures now?

In the U.S. the car only fell by 8K units last year compared to 2004. Your point is what? That is nothing when you look at the fact that every other car in the segment came in after the E-Class, 5-Series, A6, M35/45, GS300/430, Acura RL and Caddy STS, yet the E outsold them all last year, except the 5-Series. Period.

You say the CLS is taking sales away from the E-Class? Based on what? The fact is that both the CLS and E dropped last month compared to Feb 2005. So again how is the CLS taking sales from the E-Class? You don't know this for a fact, its merely speculation based on Feb 2006 sales figures which for the E-Class could be down for the model changeover we all know is coming. As far as the E falling for over a year, that would be a new A6 and 5-Series (and all the new Japanese cars) in this country, not the CLS. European numbers aren't the topic of the thread.

Me asking how the CLS could be taking sales from the E isn't drawing a conclusion it is asking a question.

So do we have german and worldwide figures yet?

Audi sales rose by 13 percent to some 62,000 units in February.

Panke said BMW February worldwide growth was of a double digit number.

No word from MB yet.

More info next week - BMW releases their numbers on Tuesday, I guess MB will do it next week too.
