The launch of an entirely new model always means a mammoth task for a car manufacturer. Just to name two thing, there's no customer base you can build on and no public perception as to what the car stands for. Hence, the introduction of such a completely new model always requires special ways to make prospective buyers aware of it. Quite a popular recipe to achieve this are promotional videos, so it's no surprise that Audi chose that route as part of their marketing campaign to build the hype around the launch of the new A1.

We'll bring you all 6 parts of the A1 web movie starring Justin Timberlake. So far, 4 parts have been published. Stay tuned for parts 5 and 6!

Isnt that the girl from heroes with black eyes..

Anyways she is hot..commercial is to long and sucks..
And justin should just sing...

This is such a waste of time. Worst marketing idea from Audi so far. Justin is a has-been-star and couldn't be more irrelevant.

I think this is an awful tie-in for Audi. Total miscue and bad for the brand.

It's easy to see how something like this gets formulated in the boardroom... "Young" car ties with "Young Relevant" star = Viral Marketing Gold.

This is 4-year-old thinking. The whole idea of marketing any new car to youth is a mistake now that the spending power of that demographic has evaporated. Dopey pack mentality thinking got execs convinced that bottom-range cars are targeted at youth, when they're actually targeted at brand aspirants who are watching their budget.

I could rant all day.

It just uses every cliche from "The Hire" But at least the BMW films were more inventive and creative and used top-end talent in not only casting some of the biggest actors today but directors too.
Remember these were big name directors involved .

We were actually discussing this the other day that perhaps it is time for BMW to revisit "The Hire" and show Audi how it is really done.

^^
That.

You couldn't be any more right Josh. Having recently resigned from a marketing internship I have witenessed first hand misconceptions about viral marketing, held by babyboomers and even successful individuals in their late 30s.

Lesson 101 in viral marketing is that it cannot be guaranteed or created. It's entirely in the minds of the audience. There is a major Twitter, facebook and blog bandwagon hopped on my thousands of firms who believe that hiring a young intern to manage a fan page or a twitter account will add some "coolness" to the brand or attract thousands of internet accdicts who will overnight become passionate about the company's products. As a result, I'll unlikely seek another marketing internship if "social b*tchworking" is a part of the job description.

Clearly in Audi's case they thought that one plus one always equals two. They've done everything by textbook.

1. Individualistic urban car
2. Pop star
3. Episode campaign

But yet I have seen any traces of a A1 Timberlake buzz anywhere.

+1000

BMW got the idea many years ago, and only now Audi does similar, but in a very bad and cheap way. BMW has to get back to the CINEMA (Commercials, James Bond, Transporter,........) and teach others.

The sixth and final episode has been added to the first post.

I have to admit, I wasn't that fond of this movie, but the sudden turn at the end was a nice suprise, IMO.

Have a look at it:

That gives an idea for a MINI spoof. He is offered the assignment, looks at the Audi , decines the offer whilst everyone else around the table is looking dumbfounded and wondering why? cut to a MINI Cooper S being driven aggressively through the docks - tag-line "The next best thing was already here!" MINI.:D

We would not have JT (sorry JT fans)...

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
