C300 Sport will start at $31,975. This is very agressive considering sunroof, bluetooth and dual 8-way power seats are standard.

C300 Luxury will start at $33,675. The difference, I imagine, is because the sport comes standard with a manual tran and the luxury is standard with automatic.

C350 will start at $37,275.

Not bad.

Most states do have a sales tax and those prices are before that tax is applied. It is 8.5% or something in California. And there is a luxury tax and Gas guzzler taxes too, not sure if they apply to this car.

At last. My '01 C320 with packages C2, C3 & C4 plus metallic paint, Java leather and Xenon lights cost $43,010 which included shipping.

My '08 C300 Luxury (US name) with P2 package, Multimedia package, cashmere beige leather and Barolo red metallic paint will cost $41,385, shipping included. That's $1625 cheaper than the '01 which did not have Comand.

Our state tax rate will add 8.9%.

The cars will arrive at US dealers on August 7. Still no word when cars with the Multimedia package can be ordered other than the vague "September 1."

VAT = Value Added tax. Its a indirect tax on applied on a sales price. In Belgium its 21%. If you buy in Europe and then ship it elsewhere then you get a VAT deduction (i.e. you get this money back).

Wow. The R500 must didn't sell well enough to warrant it being replaced by the R550? If this latest round of changes doesn't work the R is a lost cause for real, especially with a 268hp V6 being the top of the line engine. I take it the R63 is gone too then huh?

Actually the R is doing OK. The V8 doesn't appeal to the person who buys this car. The R has the has percentage of buyers who have never owned a Mercedes before.

Yep. Mercedes has announced that the R63 AMG is not going to be produced anymore. I always wondered why they made this pointless car in the first place.
