Official Thread Toyota Gazoo Racing presents the world premiere of the GR GT and GR GT3

It makes sense to me as a homologation model for the GT3 car: It doesn't matter if it's too expensive, they won't need to sell that many... and it doesn't matter if it doesn't win bhp Top Trumps, it's never going to race with the road car out put anyway. They also lean hard on this angle in the press release. Fair play to them for building it though.

The joke is on Honda for not making an S2000 successor.

I'm more sad that we never got the actual HSV-010 from Honda (which would have been more of a competitor in this space), I never really liked the S2000 for some reason.

I think it will sell better than the lfa did är launch. It was under appreciated.

Competition for this car doesn't matter much. A new Japanese super car is only born eveey 10-15 years.

The JDM community will be ecstatic that this car exists. Some cultists of Japanese cars have zero interest in German or Italian super cars. This is the car for them. I also think that the car will have a nice halo effect on the gr yaris and corolla.

Toyota is sexy again unlike during its beige era of 2007-2012.

Agreed, just this was one of the best cars ever!

Maybe. I'm a bit of a JDM fan and while the Racing fan in me is happy to see a proper Toyota GT3 car coming, as far as road cars go, I'd be far more excited to see a new trifecta of FF, MR and FR sportscars arrive from Toyota at a far, far more attainable price than this is rumoured to be.

Same here.

I wish they would show us the production NB1 NSX like how BMW and Porsche showed their unreleased prototypes, I'm sure it's hidden in a warehouse somewhere. They were targeting a 'Ring record and it was exactly 1 month away from global debut before it was completely cancelled.

And for the record I think this is a stunning car, for a Toyota not in general. Some of the hype is that it is a Toyota and they don't do anything special that often, like every 10 years or so, so that builds up the hype on a car with specs that don't really stand out at all on paper. That said, I''m glad they're making it I can't wait to see it and see the reviews. It's just hard for me to shake off the disappointment of the Lexus being an EV when it's better looking for the two, IMO.

Yes. Those err quintessential Jdm cars. There are gr Yaris and gr Corolla though! Not the same formula but nevertheless spicy affordable cars.

The GR GT is more nsx and GTR rival. Could it be considered Toyotas first super car?

Nismo versions of the GTR are selling for Ferrari money. Will be interesting to see how tunable the car will be.

It's starting to sound like branding run amok.

Nonetheless, excited for the upcoming GR Celica and GR MR2 (of which I had mistakenly thought would've been the same car.. but proven wrong amidst the recent trademarks!)

I'm extremely concerned about the rumours of the Gen 6 Supra being powered by the G20e 4-cyl engine. Hoping those rumours are false but with how accurate BestCar and Mag-X reported on the GR GT's development for the past 4 years, I'm worried!

Yes I'm very much a closeted Toyota/Lexus/GR/Century fan. Sports cars are always a good thing.

Regarding the HSV I’ve a little story I can share after almost 18yrs.

A small group of bikers from Germany asked me If I could organize them some space to sleep, which I did.
(I was working in the tourism business in these days)

I decided to invite them for dinner, soon one of them disclosed that he’s working in the car industry.
He was a external software developer and testdriver for this Honda, because the project was cancelled, he was able to spill the beans.
Honda had no experience with this kind of transmission, that’s why he was asked to help them.
The Honda would’ve flattened the LFA, 5.5L V10 650hp, 9500rpm, 7SP SMG and transaxle.

As it happens, he once even meet the LFA prototype on the German autobahn, he had to lift at 337 km/h GPS, and he was easily able to outrun the LFA.
And this wasn’t even the topspeed, the target was 340km/h.

Pfft not very closeted I had seen you commenting on some Lexus stuff that's why I had asked earlier about the other forums hahaha. I miss when Carmaker1 was around sharing information, up until mid-2023 he was still around at the Lexus forums but haven't heard from him in 2 years.

But yeah agreed, I just wish Lexus would get more love :(

Realistically though they are making way too much money selling Rav4-platform SUVs to worry about being a competitor to the Germans, like you said.
