86 Toyota FT-86: First Official Photos of Near-Production RWD Sports Coupe

The Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ are 2+2 sports cars jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, manufactured at Subaru's Gunma assembly plant. For the first-generation model, Toyota marketed the sports car as the 86 in Asia, Australia, North America (from August 2016), South Africa, and South America; as the Toyota GT86 in Europe; as the 86 and GT86 in New Zealand; as the Toyota FT86 in Brunei, Nicaragua and Jamaica and as the Scion FR-S (2012–2016) in the United States and Canada.
Well I think the LF-A is pretty gorgeous and radical looking to begin with :eusa_clap

As far as most promising, yeah, maybe for upcoming models, but The GTR and LF-A are in another game altogether....

What's not clear to me though...are we looking at the production version or a concept car???

Interesting looking car. I remember my first car, the Toyota Celica (T18) I had in '92. This child of the vanilla-design - phase had an ageless design, it was fast, affordable and reliable. Hopefully, the FT-86 is a worthy successor. Can't wait to see it IRL.

lol Not really. It's everywhere

If you read the actual stats, it's really not that big of an issue. It just got blown WAY out of proportion because of the reluctance of Toyota to act when NHTSA told them.

As some comedians have pointed out, if it wasn't Toyota then this issue wouldn't be this big. Many other car makers have had huge recalls, and many of them have had it multiple times. But since Toyota is the one always touted for for their "reliability" everyone is treating Toyota differently. At the end of the day, big whoop. Take your car to the f__king dealership and leave it there for a day. That's all. Not like the whole damn car is falling apart.

So yes, Klier is right. Don't listen to the media too much.

A lot of people have died because of sloppy work and subsequent cover-ups by Toyota. I for one hope that Toyota never uses safety and reliability as marketing points again because I would risk laughing myself to death.

The FT-86 alludes to completely different values :usa7uh:

That's my biggest fued with toyota, the cover-ups. They knew about the problems in 2007 but refused to issue a recall. although it's a small problem to fix, it affect the fundamental functions of a car, accelerating and braking. it doesn't get more serious than that.

I heard on the radio today that they have a fix now: if you press the gas and brake pedal at the same time, the engine of the car will shut off.

Errr... you're wrong. For one thing I live in the UK and it's been all over the news here! I mean headline stories in such papers as the times. Hell there're even cartoons in the tabloids about Toyotas' going downhill at the olympic games. The Times even dedicated a whole couple pages to the family who placed a last minute 999 call saying 'they were in a Toyota and their accelerator was stuck and they couldn't stop'. And yes... right before they crashed to death.
It's made massive news here. I mean common how people have to die for it to become 'serious'?? Even from newspaper reports that's not the only fatality in a Toyota as a result of this scandal. So Klier was right about what??
It's been a news sensation in Japan as well as well as just about everywhere else.
Maybe you two need to read more then, globally...:usa7uh:

There is a separate thread for the discussion about Toyota recalls. Let's not fill this thread with arguments about that subject. :t-cheers:

Toyota FT-86 Gazoo Racing coupe spied for a second time

New details are starting to emerge about the Toyota FT-86 Gazoo Racing coupe as our spies have managed to get up close and personal once again with it at the Nürburgring.

Set to compete in this weekend's four-hour VLN race, the prototype has a unique front fascia, an aggressive diffuser and a massive rear wing.

In a nod to its racing mission, the interior features a carbon fiber racing seat, a roll cage and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel. These items won't carry over to the production model, but the instrument cluster and dashboard could preview the components which will be used on the mainstream FT-86 / BRZ / FR-S.

There's no word on performance specifications, but the prototype will be driven by M.Takaki, Y. Katsumata and M. Kageyama.
