~Top Gear Season 18~(Trailer, Discussion, and info)

If anyone that wasn't a BMW fanboi said anything like that, I'm sure a mod would of been all over it. No clue why I feel there's a double standard but I also think there's a conflict of interest with some of the mods, as well. With that said,

I'm sure you're not the only person to think there are double standards. In this case, maybe nobody has reported it. I certainly haven't, but then that's because I have given up all hopes that anything would come of it. Some members seem to be Teflon coated. So things like this happen and people just respond in the thread and it gets derailed.

Did anyone watch today's episode?

I'm just about to watch the recording now. I don't watch it "as broadcast" any more because you can't fast forward all the rubbish. It should keep me occupied for about 15 minutes.

I know how you feel. I've reported several posts(including attacks to myself) but nothing ever seems to be done about it. Maybe it is time to voice the concern to the admin(s)?

Let me know how you would rate it!

Let's be honest here, it's not like you both haven't benefitted from a lenient mod approach before. But it's well noted that you want things to be handled more strictly around here. However, this is not the right thread to discuss this. So I'll go ahead and edit Klier's incredibly offensive comment. Further questions/concerns via PM or the report feature. Thanks.

Utterly terrible. Possibly the worst episode of Top Gear I have ever seen. Three track cars. What should be a 5 to 10 minute relatively interesting review is stretched out to cover most of the programme. Another segment of the show featured two VERY old cars based around old aircraft engines. Cue JC to make lots of very tired cliches about the ze Germans. A ten minute chat with Alex James, the bassist from Blur and a plug for the concert he's doing after the Olympics. Now I like music, but what's he doing on a car programme? Who cares how fast he goes round a track?

Oh, there was an M5 in it. It was in the background briefly at the end of the programme parked next to a 911 (991). :eusa_doh:

I'm afraid the show is passed it's sell-by date and nobody dare tell JC. He is so deluded about how bad the programme has become, and he is out of touch with the general public. At one point, summing up the track cars, he said "it's amazing that we can go round this track at 100mph in the open air, and yet we're not allowed to smack our children......" Er, maybe a lot of people think you SHOULDN'T be smacking your children?

Next week is the last episode in the series. Just as I expected. The first episode was excellent. The rest is utter tripe.

^+1. I am starting to loss interest in TG this series, in the past their reviews were pure entertainment but at least relevant to the cars we buy but this latest program was utter dribble.

come on, that was clearly a joke..
Top Gear is not supposed to be taken seriously, so why do you?

I'm well aware of JC's sense of humour, but the comment about "not being able to smack your children" was only ever made to be taken at face value. He was using it to say, "it's ridiculous that we can't even do that......." Sure, it's not that serious a thing to say, but it's the sheer "matter of fact" way he says it, like he just assumes not being allowed to smack your children is a bad thing, and a view shared by everyone else.

His obsession with "ze Germans" and the Second World War" is bordering on xenophobic. And did you see the India special?

JC reverts to type far too often and it's becoming tiresome. He's starting to look like a dinosaur and, being in his fifties, he's an anachronism. The way Richard Hammond runs around after him like he would if trying to get in with the school bully is pathetic.

Steve Coogan, famous British comedian and self-confessed car nut (he's been on Top Gear three times before) wrote this great article about a year ago which perfectly sums up my thoughts. He wrote it after yet another attack on a vulnerable nation.

"Richard has his tongue so far down the back of Jeremy's trousers he could forge a career as the back end of a pantomime horse. His attempt to foster some Clarkson-like maverick status with his "edgy" humour is truly tragic. He reminds you of the squirt at school as he hangs round Clarkson the bully, as if to say, "I'm with him". Meanwhile, James May stands at the back holding their coats as they beat up the boy with the stutter."

I'm a huge fan of Top Gear. But this time I've had enough | Steve Coogan | Television & radio | The Observer

And this comedian sums up my thoughts too.

Absolutely great post Betty. :t-cheers:

As much as I really enjoy the show (especially now that we here in SA get to see what you guys see @ the same time you see it) the JC / Hammond saga is getting tiresome;)

Yes, JC is extremely ignorant, arrogant, biased and possibly attention (and/or controversary) seeking old man, but as long as i dont take him seriously, i find him funny (maybe entertaining is better word here actually). I agree his exaggerating can go out of proportion and be completely ridiculous and well, kind of sad, but i still wait for a next week episode and im still interested in what are they going to do. I guess such short seasons help them to keep interest. Or maybe im just too young and my sense of humour is not sophisticated enough yet, but i think you Betty (with all due respect) are digging a bit too deep here ;D

Well, lets agree to disagree. The fact that you're young, and this isn't meant to be an insult, is probably why you can see the humour in it that maybe someone who is a bit older, can't.

After watching half of the Season 18, I have to agree with Betty. The first episode was great. The rest not.

I have all the season 18 episodes in my computer, yet I don't feel like watching them. TG is not as it used to be a few years back...

They should just have one off specials, IMHO, every couple of months. The opening episode should have been a one hour special. The rest of the series has been a waste of time. With internet only videos becoming more and more professional, like EVO's video reviews and Chris Harris on Drive, Top Gear is going to look even more ridiculous. The fact that a typical comment from people I talk to is "but my girlfriend/wife loves it and she hates cars" tells you everything you need to know. A car programme that appeals to non car enthusiasts cannot possibly be doing it's job properly.

Anyway. One more episode to go. That SHOULD feature the M5.

One of their biggest fouls, is the fact that they spend way too much time on those stupid projects, like the car chase scene from episode 3. Hammond is not funny anymore. He's being silly.
