X6 Top Gear reviews the BMW X6.

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof).
99% of the owners are never going offroad with their X6. They buy X6's for other reasons. This test is just for fun.

That is the point.
If I want to go off-roading, I will not take an $80k vehicle off-roading. I will get a $20-30k vehicle called a truck off-roading.
Nobody in their right mind in NA at least takes an expensive SUV off-road. We buy SUVs for a different reason.

AFA the review is concerned, I believe it isn't a review of any sort but rather a deliberate attempt of mockery at BMW- plain and simple.

^ok thats valid..you guys say i wont take a car like that offroading..
But he also said it sucks on the road..
Or do you plan to not take it on the road aswell???

sucks on the road- I havent seen the video so let me know what he said? and yes we know Jeremy says a lot ;)
I read several X5/X6 reviews and in what way are they bad on the road, what have I missed?
Chonkoa own a X6 and owned the car for some time, im sure he can tell us if its bad road car since he got the experience.

^well he basically said its uncomfortable.. and would be more sporty if it were lower..

there is only 1 reason to buy this car..
and thats the design..if you like it sooo much..that you can pay so much for it..and live with a flawed product..
then ok..

But to me its not that great a design.. ( its nice ).. i wouldnt give up so much money and practicality for that design..

Personally I dont buy SUV or whatever they're called becuase I have no intrest in such cars but If people want one then its alright by me.
I have never driven a X6 so I cant speak about the ride thats for the owners to decide who actually drive the car on regular basis.

I've driven a Xdrive 35d just like the one in the top gear episode. The driving experience is just alike any SUV, comfortable drive with all bumps on the road easily absorbed by the suspension. It's a very meaty driving experience with more agility than other SUV. I frankly find it very enjoyable to drive........for a large car.

But it's quite pointless talking pragmatism and logical when the car in discussion is a lifestyle product. X6 buyers would very well afford an X5, 5-Series or even a 7-Series, but a well aware of the compromises they make when they opt for an four door coupe SUV.

I saw the test yesterday on the BBC, and I was laughing the whole time. Jeremy isn't a car journalist, but he sure is a damn good entertainer!!!

And that part of the road is what exposes the so-called review for what it is.
I drive mine almost everyday in sports mode, so I can confidently say that Mr Clarkson is spewing a croc of rubbish.

Like I said, it is obviously a mockery at BMW masked in the form of an X6 review.

Top Gear is a tabloid which offer truth sprinkled with fiction, exaggeration and misinformation. Filtering and interpretation is up to the viewer.

The one I often pick up on is "flappy pedal gearbox" which is a rather laymans term for any hearbox that doesn't have a manually operated cluth. It's rather poor to lump together automatic, sequential and dual clutch gearboxes which all are very different. It would be like someone uninformed buying you a "flatscreen" without consulting whether you want an LCD, Plasma or OLED. Three different technologies with different pros and cons.

Right okay we all know jeremy clarkson talks sh!t..

But there is no denying the fact, the X6 would be a better car is it wasn't wanting to be a SUV and when you think of it like that, yes the ride will be better if it wasn't as big..

What about compared to the X5? (having in mind the engine in the X6 is much better).

OK Jeremey clarkson is right, somehow, the car is rather pointless and might be just a fashion statement as Hasan said but that is rather wrong in the current time.

The X6 is fine, rides great and can do little off roading with the right wheels and tyres. BUT, there are better alternatives that might not look flashy, but will do the job 100% in all categories.

The RR Sport for example, with the new 5.0 Supercharged, it can beat the X6 V8TT on road off road, while maybe not on track. But it has a more comfortable ride or adaptive as I would describe it due to the air suspension which the X6 lacks. Not to mention the intelligenet AWD systems with Lo range for off roading.

MKI cayenne and now the MK II is due, both will have a better ride than X6 due to the same exact reason. I guess BMW should've gone with Air suspension and added a Lo gearing considering that X5 and Cayenne weigh almost the same, So in a way, the Cayenne is ligher !! It has more systems and weighs almost the same. It might not have 7 seats but those last 2 seats in the beemer are really an after thought since they are so thin and can be fitted to any SUV with enough boot space.

Then again BMW did a great job considering they wanted a MAXIMUM road feel and feedback, hence the front coil springs instead of air suspension while rear air suspension was almost a must due to trailing and comfort. BUT, things change, leave coil springs for saloons and hatchs while SUVs really need air suspension. RR had it for more than 15 years now, Lexus has it and Cayenne too. So I can't see a why not.

So all in all, I agree with Mr. Clarkson 100%.

I would never buy an X5 or ML unless it gets air suspension and low-range gears. And Yes I don't want to abandon my expensive SUV in a desert or somewhere coz I do go off roading.

Our ML has a specil mode in wich the car goes up and down offroad and you don´t have even to acelerate, I´ve never try them btw.

^ I wasn't sure about the ML. Thanks for clearing that up SKYSONY. But is there differential locking or low range gears ? I haven't tried an ML before.

I would love to see where, when and how the RR Sport beats the X6 V8TT on the tarmac.

straight line performance bro, not track as I said. My friends tested both back to back. RR even beatn the G55 Kompressor. It was strange since official range numbers are in favour of the G55 and X6. One other guy also claimed to beat a CL63 but that is doubtful (although he recorded a video over youtube) but some said the CL63 wasn't pushed.

This entire program is typical unti-BMW Top Gear propaganda. X6 as well X5 are not off roaders and them not meant to be. So it’s not correct to compare X6 with RR, is even ridiculous. I have chance to drive RR for almost one year and driving X5 for 10 years (this winter is my 11-Th Canadian heavy winter) and wouldn’t change my X5 as winter car for RR. Sorry Mr Clarkson your program is really a stupid show not a car show. I have some remarks to add, look for X3 and X5 achievements during Dakar Rally if you follow it. :t-cheers:
