Top gear Fiasco in Argentina

Top Gear and their style of presenting would be acceptable on MTV. However, they're not on MTV. They're on the BBC, a publicly funded and owned broadcaster established under a Royal Charter, and which has to maintain certain standards.

I don't find them anymore offensive than lets say, the Kardashians/Geordie Shore or any other reality show. I just think they're not funny anymore.

German TV has entire channels dedicated to automotive reviews, and as with everything German, they take it seriously.

i partially agree on that

while their reviews sometimes cna be perfect or meh, it's the specials and road trips that shows the best and worst qualities

the ukranian road trip has been the worst road trip due to these lack of these factors:
- facts about the car
- epic scenery (they drove through mostly a flat landscape saying NOTHING, american road trip and mkadikadi was better despite having nothing because they played the humour right)
- interesting facts about the country

the indian special is also what i would say is the worst special because of the same factors (it was too predictable)

however the burma special was good because:
-they were enthusiastic
-they made fun of each other
- they played the jokes at the right time
-GOOD modification to their vehicles
- the facts above
-if something broke, they mended it

Very interesting video. Thanks.

I have a lot of time for James May. However, I don't believe a single word he's saying.

With regards to them "never making a joke about war"; I've already posted the video about Vietnam above. They WOULD make a joke about war and they indeed HAVE made a joke about war.

Secondly, the numberplate is CLEARLY a reference to the Falklands. Clearly. It's about as close as you can get whilst still using a legal British number plate. It's a HUGE coincidence. This idea is that they had a choice of two Porsche 928s to choose from is a red herring. I don't know how they came about the car, but I doubt very much it wasn't planned.

Maybe a researcher investigated various number plate combinations which would make reference to the Falklands, and then did a search of the UK vehicle registry to see which cars were carrying that numberplate. Now it COULD be that they then found a car which had a number plate like this, and low and behold, it happened to be a Porsche 928. But the idea that they were searching for a 928, and by pure coincidence ONE of them had this numberplate which just fitted the Falkland Islands is just one I don't believe.

The plate was "H982 FKL". That is as close as you can get! The fact that they also had other number plates in the boot spelling "BE11 END", then it's quite clear there was going to be a gag about the number plate. That they're even trying to deny this is pathetic.

What a load of crap, indeed. The Top Gear crew are exactly that sort of folks who would make fun of past armed conflicts, and yes, they did so on many occasions, not only in Vietnam, but repeatedly throughout the years, the WWII being especially favored topic of theirs (and them being unapologetically jovial at Britain's victory any time it was brought up), and I am almost certain they made some Falklands jokes in the past as well. If they didn't, then it wouldn't be because it was something they wouldn't do, but because they simply didn't get an opportunity.

Then, let's not forget they used about every chance they got to make rude words "accidentally" appear from otherwise supposedly innocuous text after, for example, doors being open, and to decorate their cars with messages in general - think the USA special. In addition, they have made use of specific number plates in the past as well at least on one occasion I can remember (S15E06), and probably some more which I can't remember or be bothered to look up.

Pretty much, they have been doing exactly what they have been accused of doing for ages. So, I mean, come on, Top Gear, you "would not base a joke around soldiers in conflict," eh? Except for all the times you did, we are not blind and deaf. Don't feed us this bullshit...

By far the worst part, though, isn't that they did it, and that it wouldn't be funny (ironically because they've done it so many times before), but that they feel they have to lie about it. With Clarkson also apologizing about some nursing rhyme that didn't even air (and again having to lie about what he thinks) and being "given an ultimatum", it all reads rather depressingly and makes the hosts look like three old men who are just too comfortable and don't have the energy or motivation to force the anti-establishment spirit through anymore. Which is a shame. But it wouldn't save the show anyway :).

I only rarely watch TG but are'nt they rather known for this kind of stunts? The only thing they misjudged this time was the crowd they poke fun at.
