TV Top Gear: Chris Harris Reportedly Joins

Ah, there's nothing like that two-fingered salute from your trusty ol' man-bits medical practitioner to elicit all manner of facial expression contortion.

First Farage, now Evans. Quite an eventful day in the UK

The dehydrated onion did the right thing. Possibly the only thing that has gone right so far.

Won't help the show though, it will still suck.. but one might be able to watch it in the background while doing something else--- with evans there you wanted to throw the tv away.

I have not seen the new show. Is it bad guys?

@SKY

Some episodes are good and a delight to watch, but the majority are bad, thanks to Evans hosting and failed humour.

I think next season will be a success with Harris , Leblanc and Rory leading.

The best thing to do is make your mind up for yourself, should you get a chance to watch it. In my opinion, without a doubt it's better than the last few series of the old Top Gear. Leaving my opinions of Jeremy Clarkson aside, the last few series were quite dull and it baffles me why people are mourning its loss.

At its worse (probably episode 1), the new series is on a par with the old series. At its best (probably episode 3) it was really wonderful to watch. The only weak link, in my opinion, was Chris Evans, and now that issue has been solved.

No, and it has nothing to do with you hating on Clarkson non stop, absolutely not

Either way, indeed to make up your own mind indeed @SKY. Go watch it. It's absolutely aweful with and without Evans. They all suck. The whole format is just unbelievably bad without the 3 old hosts.

And your dislike of new Top Gear is not due to your inherent bias TOWARDS Clarkson? If we had a poll on here, I have no doubt that you would be viewed as the most erratic, and biased member of the forum.

I don't think anybody who knows my posting history on here can accuse me of being biased, ever.

I really don't know why you've replied to me. You don't like the new Top Gear. I do. Deal with it.

Jeremy Clarkson used to make some superb Top Gear episodes. The Ferrari F12 he drove through Scotland was some of the best television I've ever seen. At his best he's untouched with his way of words. He single handedly transformed Top Gear from a boring consumer programme to what it was at its peak.

Unfortunately, as so often when people run out of ideas, he took what he thought made him popular (the silliness and laddish behaviour), and turned it up to eleven, and he became a parody of himself. But even that I could handle. Punching a colleague whilst on a final warning was too much.

The whole format is just unbelievably bad without the 3 old hosts.

In what way is it bad, Klier? Come on. We can all make random statements. You never back it up. How is the format bad compared to the old TG? It's EXACTLY the same format as before! Except this series had a lot more of actual CARS in it! R8, M2, Ferrari tdf, Focus RS, Aston Martin Vulcan, Ford Mustang, Dodge Viper, McLaren 675LT, McLaren F1, and more I've forgotten. And it has Chris Harris.

What YOU want is televised LadBible. Three middle-aged blokes making casually racist comments and being idiots. Luckily for you that will come later in the year.

I think the popularity of YouTube channels that are unscripted (think Alejandro Salomon & Chris Harris) have put the nail on the coffin of Top Gear.
We have seen reviews on the cars they used on the show months ago via YouTube. By the time the BBC aired the show, it was meh.

Now, let's see how Chris does with his show.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Youtube has democratized video content like nothing else before. Especially in the past 24 months, many of the car channels on Youtube have really started focusing on production value (e.g. Motortrend, EVO, Petrolicious, etc) and the stuff they put out is incredible considering it is free content. As video equipment such as gimbals and autonomous video drones become better and cheaper with time, production value will keep increasing and become more accessible to individuals.

This means that production companies such as the BBC need to work even harder to make Top Gear content really special.

@Soup The Daily Mail is an appalling newspaper. Don't be so gullible. They make their money now on writing click-bait articles.

As soon as I read that article I thought "that doesn't sound very accurate and sounds made up". James May is actually a friend of Chris Evans. And when newspapers quote "anonymous sources" and "a cameraman told us", that usually means "we made this up". So, I had a look at Jeremy Clarkson's Twitter account (I don't follow him), and I sure enough, he'd posted about it....

Saw most recent episode (with Chris Evans still in it). I must say, Matt LeBlanc is extremely impressive. The part where he drove the 911 R around the track gave goosebumps. He is a proper gear head and was heel-toe downshifting like a pro. Not sure if he wrote his piece, but the writing was brilliant. He seems to be the perfect host. Great sense of humour, some irony, some proper facts and good driving abilities.
