In the spirit (pun somewhat intended) of NSL's Beer thread, I figure this thread was bound to be created.

So I'm not a rich man so I like to stick with USD $8-15 range. I usually stick to reds because to me there's more nuance and varied flavors.

So here are my some of my favorites...
1) J. Lohr - Cabernet Sauvignon
2) Casillero del Diablo - Camenere or Cab Sauvignon
3) Most Argentinian Malbecs
4) Almost any Italian Barolos
5) Jacob Creek's (Reserve) Shiraz

Give me a dinner consisting of a med-rare ribeye, sauteed garlic rapini, roasted rosemary potatoes, and a glass or two, I will have the stupidest grin on my face

South-Africa is wine country! We have so many wine makers it's not even funny!

Our Cape Provence is where our most famous wines are produced.

Our most famous en most coveted winemaker and most internationally renowned and crowned is NEDERBURG WINES.

Nederburg earned the highest number of five-star ratings in the Platter’s South African Wine Guide, along with two other wineries.

Nederburg launched a series of individually-labelled gourmet wines as the Heritage Heroes collection, available exclusively in specialty wine shops and at fine dining restaurants. Each wine has been named after a prominent personality who played a role in shaping Nederburg’s reputation. The Anchorman Chenin Blanc is named to honour Philippus Wolvaart. (1791) Made from one of South Africa’s earliest-planted varietals, it pays tribute to the man who started it all at Nederburg. The Brew Master, a Bordeaux-style red, commemorates the skills and pursuit of excellence established by Johann Graue (1937).

The Beautiful Lady Gewȕrztraminer recalls the elegantly gracious, sophisticated and lovely Ilse Graue, who introduced a tone of splendour to Nederburg and remained a loyal wife to Johann. (1937). The Airhawk wooded Sauvignon Blanc captures the spirit of their son, Arnold Graue, an immensely talented winemaker, with a huge appetite for life, who died tragically young. (1953) The Motorcycle Marvel is a Rhône-style red that exemplifies the exacting attitude and adventurous personality of the legendary Gȕnter Brӧzel (1956).

Nederburg also unveiled a new lifestyle range of varietal wines under the 56HUNDRED label. The very smooth-drinking wines bursting with fruit flavour have been named for the price of 5 600 guilders paid for the farm, in 1791 by founder, Philippus Wolvaart, Beginning with a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chenin blanc, the range recalls his never-say-die attitude in taming a wilderness and beginning a legacy that has lasted well over two centuries

Well, wine, where to start? I've been drinking wine since I was a child, I grew in the most food/wine obsessed house in whole world, to the point it was anoying. My dad coulnd't think of another think that's not food or wine (and he is no drunk, he drinks sparingly) That gave me the oportunity to taste at leat 3000 different wines or perhaps even more.

I tend to like italians wines more than anything, but european wines more than south american wines. Most north american wines I had were very light and smooth, not a bad thing, but not my fav either.

My all time favorite is a tuscan Chianti, that mated to the excellent beef or pork raised in Bolivia's south east lands is my heaven. Then comes Dolcetto and Barbera d'Alba, specially the ones from Marchesi di Barolo. An argentinian wine I like is Valentin Bianchi DOC: cheap and tasty.

White wines: Lambrusco bianco, Verbesco from Marchesi di Barolo, Riesling.

Having sicilian roots, I love Marsala and similar fortified wines like Porto and Jerez.

And obviously, there's no better combo for making love than George Michael music and champagne/brut or sparkling wine. My favs: Spain's Freixenet, italian Asti and Argentine's Chandon which I prefer over the french Möet & Chandon

Edit: Christmas in family: outdoor meal consisting of grilled lamb, rucola salad from the own garden and some home made pickles as appetizers. And this fellow from 1991 (you can see my hands in the background ):

My preference
US wine- California followed by Washington
Australia they also have some of the best port.
Then probably Italian

Never had an Argentinian Malbec that I liked.
South Africa has a flavor I don't care for (but then haven't had that many).
