do you think McMurty has opened a can of worms by using a fan and that other manufacturers will follow soon?
do you think we will ever see the 1600hp, TTV6, 600-ish kg Red Bull X2011 being made to demolish all records?
I do think there will be more adopters, yes. And hopefully they improve upon the concept. The problem with Spéirling is that no matter how fast it is, it's still a soulless two-pedal masher EV without the gears serving as a speed reference.
The drive modes are very cool, but the RC-toy-like whine always stays with you. And I imagine that's a deal breaker for many potential customers.
I would love to see the fan concept applied to a light ICE powered track missile. Maybe not quite the level of Red Bull X2011, where you need a G-suit to not pass out from driving it... But imagine something like GMA T.50s with enhanced fan element. That car is under 900 kg with a fan system already present (just not nearly as effective as McMurtry's).
Re-engineer that car with sealed off underbody and a small battery to power the fan. You'd be lighter than Spéirling with a much more palatable driving experience. The acceleration out of corners would be less than the 1000 hp EV shove. But then, do you consider the standard T.50s slow? Of course not! And this would have way higher minimal speed than the normal car.
Also, combining fan with ICE opens up cool engineering opportunities to be explored in the way how the fan is powered. If you had a turbo engine, you could employ energy regen à la Porsche 919's GU-H energy harvesting setup, recharging the, now even smaller, battery.
