Person of Interest. Some of the episodes where it's their "case of the day," it can get derivative. But I like the overall debate of artificial intelligence, national security, etc. that I find engrossing. The writers and creators have done a masterful job creating all these indivdual storylines and connecting them over the last 4 seasons. And there's a lot of action as well. I think it's a shame that they only renewed it for a truncated season, and what looks like to be their final season too.
I just finished binge watching Person of Interest. At first I wasn't too convinced by the show, or the cast members, however my friend kept bugging me to watch it and I gave in and now I am hooked. I agree that some of the story line is a bit generic and derivative but overall this series has maintained a high standard through out all 4 seasons with a well thought out plot line, great story development and it raises some very relevant points of discussion.

It is a shame that the show didn't get the number of viewers it deserves, despite receiving high ratings from critics. Perhaps its focus on tech and surveillance has push the show off from the mainstream appeal? I will watch it just for Sarah Shahi

I wouldn't mind being in the middle of a Root-Shaw sandwich

EDIT: I should add, that I really wish they were given at least a full season that way they can delve into Root's, Shaw's and Finch's backstory. Heck, you would probably need at least 2 or 3 episodes to dig into Finch's past.

Occupied - 9/10

Well, commanding officer was out of town today, so I finally got a quiet day (disturbed only with 20 phone calls) and managed to see the first episode of Occupied.

Well, it seems that the 9/10 rating is well deserved. I hope to catch some more episodes over the next few days.

Thanks Sunny for pointing that amazing series out!

I know this thread is for shows we watch, but please allow me to vent a bit, I'll keep the naughty language to a minimum....

They did it. The wankers are going to cancel Person of Interest after this season. I wouldn't have mind so much them canceling it if they'd given it a full season. But this shortened season is not enough to touch on the many intersting storylines in this show.

For those interested, CBS will premiere it on May 9th in the US, don't know about international dates....

You are welcome... it keeps getting better. Can't wait for the next season.

Too bad about POI, it got really interesting, especially when Snowden was in the news.

I wonder where they shot it now. I used to see them all the time around Flatiron, East Village and LES.

Trapped: 10/10

I can't think of any other TV show that I would rate with solid 10/10. A must watch. A true thriller!

11.22.63; A very interesting & suspenseful watch. Strong story line & great cinematography.

Occupied: 9/10

I just read that it was one of the most expensive tv series to be produced in Norway. Well, that was some very damn good television, well deserving a 9/10.

The plot is thick, things constantly change, it's a real thriller with some things to say as well.

But what is most amazing is the way the characters are pictured. Unlike Homeland, where there's a clear distinction between "good" and "evil", Occupied is sympathetic towards all characters. In Homeland, "good" is the CIA and "evil" is everyone else. In Occupied "good" and "evil" are defined by each viewer differently, based on his/ her background and ideology.

There's a vast difference between Scandinavian TV and US TV. By what I've seen so far, the former's more atmospheric, claustrophobic and dark than the typical US TV shows, the strong points of which are either the plot (a good crime story usually for me) or their impressive attention to detail (expensive productions like the Knick).

I'm hooked!

i've been wanting to make a BIG review for this show for a while, but first i want see how many of you recognize it from its description

the show started in late 2010 and quickly became an internet phenomena spawning one of the biggest and possibly the most unexpected and controversial fandom in history, it was actually banned from 4chan until they could make a subsection exclusivly for the show, the show had a thread of 15,000 pages before it got removed and they had to start a new one which currently sits at almost 6000 pages, the show has several conventions all over the world with the biggest in UK, US and germany

so far the show has 5 seasons, 3 spin-off movies, will be starting its 6th season this weekend, will release a 4th spin-off movie this fall and will have a full on theatrical movie in 2017 not related to the spin-offs

i'm planning to split the review into several parts:
1. premise (+what can be covered)
2. characters (might need to be split into more parts)
3. sountrack
4. fandom and fan made stuff (might get split into several parts)
5. other (useful links and such)

my little pony: friendship is magic

yes, i'm a brony, in 2011/2012 i would hesitate to call myself that, but after diving back into the fandom in 2015 and focusing on the fan made stuff i can say i'm proud to be one

now this show has gotten alot of controversy around it just because nobody saw the fandom coming, but when you look deeper into it the fact that this has fans isn't surprising at all, too bad many people chooses to be pre-judgemental of the show (a response which i'm not hoping for here on the forum)

MLP FIM title.webp

my little pony friendship is magic is about twilight sparkle getting sent from canterlot by her mentor princess celestia to learn about the magic of friendship...okey i know that sounds bad when you say it out loud like that and the last time somebody did a show that focused soley on the theme of friendship it ended badly *coughcarebaerscough*. But this i would say is its strong point as it changes its characters and status quo and develop itself over the seasons (without spoling anything), it also knows when it should mock itself for what it is and lampshade a trope/cliche. i will try to cover everything from season 1-5 + equestria girls so a i'll give a spoiler warnings. I will not cover the expanded universe in the IDW comics though they will be refrenced and also i will refrence the chapter books and "journal of the two sisters" guidebook (covers backstory), there is also the book "elements of harmony" which i will not be refrencing. I will probably also reference the season 3 finale a lot when it comes to spoilers as it gave the biggest change to the series by far.

i will give you the introduction to the show from S1 E1:

it uses quite good artstyle and gives you a brief introduction to equestria (though it is bearly scratching the surface)

Lauren Faust.webp

the show was created and developed by Lauren Faust, who isn't exactly a small name in the buisness having worked on shows like "Powerpuff Girls" and "Fosters Home for Imigenary Friends" with her husband Craig Mcracken. she created the show to break the girly stereotyping which girl shows often had. She based the ponies personality on the G1 MLP (firefly=rainbow dash) and she describes them as a trope/archetype with a twist

"The belief that boys shouldn’t be interested in girl things is the main reason there’s hardly anything decent for girls in animation — or almost any media for that matter. It’s a backwards, sexist, outdated attitude." -Lauren Faust

"When I took the job, I braced myself for criticism, expecting many people — without even watching the show — to instantly label it girly, stupid, cheap, for babies or an evil corporate commercial. I encourage skeptics like this to watch My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic with an open mind. If I'm doing my job right, I think you'll be surprised" -Lauren Faust

"Cartoons for girls don't have to be a puddle of smooshy, cutesy-wootsy, goody-two-shoeness. Girls like stories with real conflict; girls are smart enough to understand complex plots; girls aren't as easily frightened as everyone seems to think." -Lauren faust

Animation

the show has been recognized for having very good and fluent animation considering it uses flash (you can thank studio B/DHX for this). there was an animation bump mid-season 1 and another with each new season, it is also worth noting that one of the animators she picked from had experience on shows like samurai jack, dexters lab and star wars: clone wars (not to be confused with star wars THE clone wars)

Humour

If there's one thing this show gets right its the humour, the show has a great vareity of jokes and will rarely rely on the same gags/jokes two episodes in a row. A lot of this also comes down to the personality of the characters. the show will use slapstick, snark, sarcasm, randomness, lampshadehanging, references, anti-humour and puns.

References

the show is very good when it comes to references and will often have references which will go right over a kids head (many references have i only relized where references after looking up episodes on TVtropes)
