M3/M4 The BMW M3 CRT.

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
Easily my favorite limited edition M3. Looks amazing as a sedan which is rare for a M3. Just beautiful.

I understand where you are coming from, but BMW aren't the only ones that follow the same superficial diet routine and then hike up the price.

As long as such things are kept optional, the blame is on the customer. I was under the impression that the sat nav and speaker system were made standard equipment on the CRT. Big difference if you ask me.

However, the CRT sure is special and the fact that it is almost possible to DIY one will be irrelevant in the long run - these are insta-classics.

why do you say the engine is a tuned gts engine ? they make the same power, do they ?

The car is amamzing, it's stance is perfect plus I have always prefered the sedan, but the price is absolutely ridiculous.I mean I know that they will sell every last one of them and they should, it will probably be amazing, but I cannot think of 1 plausible reason why I would have this over a GT3 RS. I mean can anyone of you honestly tell me you would have this over the porsche? No my friends I'm sorry but this is a rip off, there is no way this car cost double to make.
This car and the GTS could have been real thorns up Porsche's ass, but alas they are priced for collectors and maximum profit and not for real ///M proponents like you and me, the guys who spread the word, build the image and fight the good fight here everyday on the pages of this amazing forum. For me ///M has always been about Porsche levels of perfromance, and more importantly engineering prowess in an everyday usable car but for substantialy less. As always this is only in my very humble opinion

I think love of brand and exclusivity would be two very good reasons. Remember, this isn't one of those quasi limited editions (you know, 10 matte black cars for the Chinese market or something like that), but the real deal with a special engine and "odd" sedan body.

To those complaining about the price, keep in mind that this car includes the following:

1. A limited-production engine, with only 317 units ever produced.
2. Implementation of the first generation of a brand new carbon fibre process.
3. Custom bodywork and interior fittings.

Along with an extremely limited 67 unit production run, I'm not surprised at all about the price. Exclusivity and bespoke components cost a lot of money.

Personally, I can't help but be impressed by this announcement. My only gripe is the choice of bodystyle; a sedan just doesn't seem right. Stuff the tech into an M3 Coupe and bring back the CSL nameplate, I say.

My wish is this: CFRP mouldings encasing an aramid honeycomb structure - has to become mainstream ASAP!;)

My heartsore is this: Why didn't BMW use CFRP tech on the new M5:confused:

Perfect dd if it was more affordable and not so limited... but it is too pricey, too few, too late. I can only hope at least with F3x M3, BMW is more serious about going after the GT3/RS market.

Awesome, but also too little too late. Should have been offered as a club sport package from the get go.

Such a car is never too late, and the tech was not available at the time. Simple.

Also, this thing here turned out to be the M3 CRT. Bloody awesome:

Better than the GTS :D:D

One limitation: price. The M5 already is crazy expensive, and these CFRP parts would make the M5 cost more than a Panamera Turbo S.
But don't get me wrong, there WILL be a special edition M5 too, with lightweight parts. The E60 M5 one-off CSL was a preview of what's to come for M5. Count on it.

Indeed and if there is one thing manufacturers can collaborate on it's CFRP parts and other weight saving tech in making it more mainstream and cost effective ASAP. Even if it means BMW collaborating with VAG:D:D

PS: Hey, Klier that M3 was made for you man! You and that Beemer belong together;)
:t-cheers:

I guess this could end up as the fastest sedan around the ring?

What's the record for a sedan actually?

It appears the F10 M5 does the Ring in 7:55, it appears.... (faster than a 996 turbo, close to R8 V10 Spider....LOL!!)

Nice, but the timing of the release is terrible. Mouths are watering over the M5 and the E90 is due to re replaced next year. I'm more intrigued by the prospects of an M5 CRT. Given the low popularity of the M3 sedan compared with the Coupe and Cabrio, the CRT is very much a collectors item for the M3 luminaries with a heart big enough to spend €130.000 which can pretty much get you any performance sedan by the likes of M5, CLS63 and even the Panny Turbo.

It is very much in the thinking that CRT can be applied to the M5.
There are M5 prototypes that are testing more technology and material application.

The M3 Coupe will also be shown using the same ideas but in a more lighter direction. Two are planned. One is a pure concept car that is strictly about application of material technology that can show the possibilities that will be possible in the future with lighter materials spreading throughout the car including what you can't see- This however is no mere visual concept it is currently in testing because BMW want to reveal some spectacular figures to accomodate the launch. It is all about showcasing possibilities. Possibilities that BMW are moving closer to thanks to investment in BMWi.

Of course before the end of production of the E92 M3 Coupe , BMW will announce a ltd edition E92 M3 using the same course of ideas but expanding more on the lightweight aspect. It will be seen as a finale to the E92 M3 and the last NA BMW M engine , And the classic name CSL (One that BMW still retain the rights too and has not lapsed or used by another manufacturer) will return on both Concept and production cars.

The BMW X6M is the next M vehicle for CRT , again the same ideas from the sedan but the X6M might get a CFRP roof panel , more power , Optional Carbon brakes a more sport orientated interior and some new lighter body panels. BMW's application of a KERS regeneration braking system could also feature with this car , it will come to the M5 and M6. It will change your perspective of an X6M.

not necessarily true, VW used it on the Jetta

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
