The Beer Thread

sammy's (sam adams) are friggin' delicious. Goes with every food.

Naruto, you're Cali man, right? you'll be able to find Franzsikaner it in any grocery store or Bevmo. Also what's the IPA called from your local joint?

Also Trader Joe's has some surprisingly delicious brews. Their Dunkel is very smooth. But I guess it's not that surprising considering that TJ's is owned by Aldi.

This thread is going to make me out to be an alcoholic :D

Cali boy? Yep. I'm from the Sacramento and Bay Area. LOL. The place is called River City Brewing. Here is the link: River City Brewing Co

Yeah, Bevmo usually has most of the stuff I want. Some things they don't, like the Innis & Gunn. Also, I'm trying to find Plinny the Elder, but no one seems to carry it.

I'm not an alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings. I'm drunk. We go to parties.

:D :D

That might just be my favorite quote from now on. Also, it's much appreciated since I'm a, what hollywood calls, Fratboy. LOL

You're Cali Man, not a Cali boy, otherwise, legally, would not be having this conversation about beer, right? ;)

I remember having Pliny the Elder before as one of my favorite pizza joints in SD had it on tap. That was just delicious. If you ever go south and are in Solana Beach, Ocean beach, or Carlsbad, go to a place called Pizza Port. I miss that place everyday.

Also contact the brewery themselves, they might point you the right direction as to where you can get it.

Yes, yes. I'm a Cali Man now. Grew up here.

Where were you Cali btw? Zachary's Pizza in Berkeley is something I miss all the time. But every time I'm in the bay now, I never get a chance to go there.

I've found a few places here that have it, but it's either sold out in minutes or it's on tap. I guess I'll have to have it on tap, but I'd really prefer to come home and take a sip one of those moments when you just want to relax. I swear everything just tastes right when you're in that moment. Going to have my 750ml bottle of Chimay Grand Reserve tomorrow during Super Bowl. To hell with everyone there, I'm not sharing.

Mmmm, Beer!

So many different beers, so little time and money! A beer that sticks in my mind as being exceptional (I last had it some 20 years ago) is Radegast from the Czech Republic.

Down in sunny SA, Windhoek Draught is a favourite of mine at the moment.

Namibia's finest! Enjoyed be many here in SA;)

A true non-compromise pure...

Another 2x popular beers enjoyed for many decades her in SA, also one of the best tasting beers Amstel IMO.

^^BTW is Amstel any good? Never had it.

Also...why do so many beer snobs hate on big name beers like Bud, Miller, Heineken, Stella, etc.? I actually like Stella, it's my "go to" beer if a restaurant I'm at doesn't have any good IPA or Sam Adams.

Stella is disgus... Oh no wait, I'm thinking of Carlsberg. Stella draught is rather fine.

It's a fine beer, i like the taste. It's crisp with nice aroma and not very bitter.

Stella's fine. Heineken is just always consistently skunky. And, yeah, I'm a beer snob, and I'm fine with that. Life's too short to drink terrible beer. And even though my posts in the last 24 hours indicate otherwise, I don't deink too often, so when i do drink I want to drink something worthwhile.

Stouts: Young's Double Chocolate Stout...if there was a desert beer, this it. So rich, it drinks like a meal.

Carlsberg is over-rated. It sells for 6€ the 330ml glass bottle and it's certainly not worth that money.

Stella draught, on the other hand, is indeed a good beer, at least for how much it sells. If I recall correctly, it sells for 3€ to 4€ per 500ml.

:)

Haven't had Carlsberg, so cannot relate, but Stella is quite good.

And damn. Ctrl Alt Delete is an interesting name for a beer. LOL. It's so unique, I gotta try one of these as well.

BTW...too bad international shipping is so damn expensive, otherwise we could get a GCF Beer Gift Exchange going this year. ;)

I'm a wine guy, but I do enjoy beer. I like Warsteiner, Heineken, Carlsberg, Miller, Corona, Nastro Azzurro and you're going to kill me.... Budweiser too :D

I think Stella Artois is overpriced for what it is (haven't tasted the proper european one, but an argentinean made under license)

And how about South America? Well, argentinean and brazilean beers are just too soft, without much flavor. (the only decent is Schneider, from Argentina).
I like a peruvian beer: Cordillera and one from Paraguay: Pilsen. In my country, the one who takes the crown is a take on Mexico's Corona, is called Paceña Ice:

Is a very tasty, yet smooth beer, with little to no hop bitterness

Yeah, Stella is marketed here as a "premium" beer and that's why most beer snobs scoff at it. Sure, it ain't no craft brew, but it sure as hell tastes better than run of the mill beer in US. I think it sits comfortably between our domestics and craft brews.

As for South America. I don't think we, where I'm at, even have a selection of these. Since I'm in California, all our stuff is pretty much Mexican. Yes, I know Mexico is not South America but it might as well be to the dumbass population of the US that isn't touching Mexico. We got mostly Pacifico, Modelo, Corona, etc.

Well, like I said before, I like run of the mill US beers like Miller and Bud :D
We got many mexicans beer over here too, like Corona, Tecate () and Modelo. My country's beers tend to be very strong, with lots of hop presence. The one that used to be the best was Huari (sound like Huayra, doesn't ?):

It was made by small subsidiary of the main brewery (Paceña) in the very highlands of the Andes mountains, but nowadays the mass production is taking the quality away....

In terms of S.American Beers, I've only had Brahma. Didn't really leave an impression.
In terms of Central American, I've had Imperial, which was alright.
