A4/S4/RS4 [Tests] Audi RS4 Avant

Actually, the new RS4 drives the most crazy of all but it's not quick on straight line.

Imo, they should have given it the 3.0TFSI with 450hp, or the 4.0TFSI with 500hp. It would make the car more crazy.

And we'll see what the time on the ring will be. If it beats the 7.59 by the RS5, it will be quite a big improvement over the B7 (8.09 min)

4.0 TFSI with 500hp?! That would be faster than the M5 F10. It is not the purpose of RS4. 3.0 TFSI 450 hp sounds better imo. But still high rev V8 NA engine is very special in nowadays.

This is only possible with a professional driver on board who knows how to ride with modern quattro.

Quick sumary: Porsche with best comfort and driving dynamics but RS4 win this comparison thanks to a better price and cheaper ownership costs.

This outcome I would never have doubted because the Panny is simply amazing IMO, in fact the RS4 getting even close to matching the Porsche is a credit to Audi.

Hi Deck...maybe a silly question and maybe answered elsewhere already and if so, i apologize, been away a while. But is the RS4 just a 4 door avant version of the RS5? Sightly longer and slighty narrower. Engine is the same?

Pretty much so :)
But they did change some small things, since the RS4 actually is heavier, but faster then the RS5. But just slightly. Reviews show that the RS4 is more fun to drive, and handles better.

P.S. Welcome back :)

Thanks!

Silly question 2 - how is it heavier but faster if it has the same engine?

Saw the reviews and they all look good!! Was hoping for someone who had driven both to give his or her two cents! :)

At one point, it seemed to be certain that I would swap for the RS4 as I need to go back to four doors. Now I am not so sure........

Good question. Will look into that! Probably Deck has got a good anwere here too.

I think I recall a test posted in here by either Soup or DeDe that showed the RS4 to be lighter than the RS5 and slower in allout acceleration but quicker in-gear. I can only assume that the reason why sometimes the results are reversed is variations in the weather conditions and the output from each example because I don't believe there's any difference in the engine/gearbox.

So really, putting a RS4 next to a RS5, the reason to choose the 4 over the 5 is just the four doors and avant look against two doors and coupe? Same car really? Even down to the size?

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
