From the outset it's clear they want to go for the cinematic scale that Old New Top Gear touched on... and it's clear from the opening dialogue, they want to give a big FU to all those before...

.. it's also clear from the outset that much more painful delivery delivery of dialogue from the small one is on the cards... in fact the scripting is strong again.

Having said that "Who's Porsche owned by...?", "That'll be Volkswagen....".... Silence.... did make me laugh - only to be killed moments later by overuse of the over used TheFerrariTheFerrari joke.

The new track is amusing and errrmmm... characterful, but I wouldn't call the ebola-drome a great layout, even though Clarkson is right --- it's better than Silverstone :D

Hopefully they'll skip the celebrity bit permanently.. it was always rubbish, segment with 3 "dead" celebs possibly the funniest in TG history.

P1, LaF and 918 segment was okay, man the Algarve Circuit is beautiful...

Overall, same **** different channel.

Just watched it, it was amazing.. 2 hours of first class entertainment:)

Top gear is dead in the water, they might aswell take it off air.

I have yet to see it.

Damn it is going to be awesome!!! Good to hear you liked it a lot, I 100% will too!

You are not really comparing two people who are not even in the same year when they compete in the race series..are you?
Yes, seems to be fair given that people are expecting us to believe he's effectively 5s faster than Harris around Portimao.

I know I'll get flamed for this but I'm now dead certain that the GT laps were from a flying start and when they realised they were all slower than Harris's they edited in the standing starts later.

I don't want to turn this thread into another hypothetical lap time discussions, but I have to say I do not consider GT as a car show for the serious car enthusiasts, it is a show for entertaining the general public and those who have a passing interest in cars.

Well that much I agree on, which is why they would have absolutely no qualms with editing hot laps to make them look like they were done from a standing start.

I mean, it's a little suspicious that his LaF and 918 times were almost exact duplicates of Harris's despite this standing start right?:sneaky:

I am not going to guess if the laps are timed from standing start or not, there are other things besides the lap times to be considered. Firstly there are no footage of the Ferrari mechanics working on the car, even though we know they will, secondly how much adjustments were the factory mechanics allowed to carry out on the cars? Finally, there is no way Mclaren will allow that sort of lap time to be announced in public without having further attempts on the track, off camera. They did the same in the Motor Trend test, as well as with EVO, when both magazines compare the P1 with the 918.

Basically, which is the most plausible of the following?

1. d'Ambrosio is 0.15-0.2s slower than Harris in the 918 and LaF.

2. d'Ambrosio is 5s faster than Harris in the 918 and LaF.

Now if they just released it as a flying lap, it would be irrelevant and 1 year late, so they had plenty of motivation to tweak the truth.

What? No Ferrari factory support? It's right there around the 1:01.10 mark. The car wasn't even road registered, so it could even get to the track without their support, nor could they drive it on the road.

Can anybody confirm whether they managed to get through the first show without insulting any minorities or nationalities they consider inferior to the British?

I must have skipped over that scene, thanks for taking the screen cap.

As for the lap time debates, you guys are already talking about that on the hyper car thread, and I prefer it if you guys keep it all on that thread.

They made a joke of it, when they had a mock fight with the American audience over whose air force was the best. They also took the piss out of the new ebola drome driver a bit. But some cultures don't get offended as easily.
