Movies Star Wars Episodes I-IX general thread

I personally find it highly amusing how some internet dudes try to find a way to get some feedback for their keyboard war, to add some more uselessness to their daily pathetic life , maybe they can get some attention so that they can sleep well.

What I find amusing is that Disneys last quarter earnings call announced that their theatrical offerings from 2023 failed and were out by over a Billion dollars. Considering their theatrical slate cost well over a billion dollars to produce and market.

Shareholders and stockholders like myself were stunned of a slate of potential Billion dollar franchises that pandered to a minority who don’t even consume that crashed their franchises Star Wars,Indiana Jones and Marvel into the ground.

Still they double down with more product from
People who can’t create, who don’t want to create and only respond. They double down For a minority that don’t watch but scream for representation. Escapism has become propaganda.

The Fans have begun to do better actual Star Wars stories (see Wingman) now they have A I capability to match the visuals of the visual effects supervisors.

Honestly , by this stage , I genuinely believe that the shareholders are also the people that benefit from those productions.

I mean , it's pretty impossible to have those absolute monster budgets , and get such a low quality CGI , cast , director , marketing , etc.

Madame Web - 80mil to make...really? For comparison , The Creator , same budget , but....

+ another 70mil on marketing for Madame Web....where?!

Godzilla Minus One was 10mil ... 10 !

And it won Best Visuals Effects at the Oscars.

And the examples go on and on...

I really think that shareholders also own the companies that receive this huge budgets...

Godzilla Minus One took a Goliath Lizard Crap and covered anything under Disney last year in effects and entertainment. Superior in every effect.

When the shareholders and white privilege misogynists are vying for your sympathy..

I'm really curious how long will Disney milk the SW IP

The Star Wars hotel looks like it's the first victim

Is The Acolyte the South Park definition of “Put some chicks in it and make it lame and gay?”

It's a pity the American left thinks they have to educate us. A TV show that is quite interesting, has to meet the woke quotas.

I like to believe this crap will eventually pass. When people get sick of being forced to see references to a certain political ideology and audiences respond time after time, studios will start to back off.

Until then, those who dislike this will be called "toxic fans".

+ lightsaber is no longer deadly.

Qui-Gon is rolling in his grave....Haha
They had that in Ashoka. There was a part of a George Lucas interview resurfaced that stated that if you are impaled it burns your internal organs and you die.

Don’t bother watching it then?

Scott, it's got a black female non-binary lead, and the series creator is a lesbian, of course you're going to hate it.

Is that the same George Lucas that brought Maul back after being cut in half by a lightsaber?

Like what?

Dark Side Witchcraft on Dathomir wasn’t it? Jedi healing didn’t happen until the sequels. If only they knew?

No, he just didn't die. Cut in half with a lightsaber, didn't die, managed to construct himself new legs and live for years before being rescued and taken back to Dathomir.

Shit happens to progress the narrative, it happened under George, it happens under Disney.

Like what? What ideology you mean. If that is the question, woke is the answer.

No I mean what specific references are we seeing. Who or what is on screen that's triggering you?

I find the lack of white male actors so forced that is simply funny. Black female protagonist who also happens to be gay, the only references to parentage is also of a gay couple (Osha's mothers). The focus on black kids during the temple scene...

I am genuinly curious : Why are you so pro with this , and also why do you (not directly) point a finger at us for turning hating how SW IP turned into a gay ultra powerful female protagonist in almost ANY franchise released in the late years?

I mean , I don't have anything against gay or any strong female protagonist , but DONE WELL ( Ripley , Sarah Connor , etc ) .

By the way , get your s**t straight : Darth Maul is NOT human .

And George Lucas made it clear since Ep 4 : Light Sabers are strong , deadly , and the "ultimate weapon" .

Being stabbed by one KILLS YOU . End of story. This was shown in every single film !

Again : Darth Maul is NOT human. And his comeback was pretty stupid , IMO. But that is another story

But we are now in a 3rd lightsaber stroke that is not deadly.

It's not particularly that I'm 'so pro with this', but I feel it's important to highlight when someone's criticism of a space-fantasy story is rooted in their own real-world bigotry, as that's then not a fair reflection of the story being told. I watch all the films, all the TV series, I read (listen to) as many of the books as I have time for, and I read as many comics that are available as collected works via google - I know there's plenty of fair reasons to criticise Star Wars... but not liking black or gay people just isn't one of them.

Not sure what specifically you're asking here, but I'd suggest just asking yourself why you have a problem with it not being a straight white dude.

I mean , I don't have anything against gay or any strong female protagonist , but DONE WELL ( Ripley , Sarah Connor , etc ) .

The fact that in 45 years of film and television, guys making this argument always go back to the same handful of characters from 18 or X certified Horror/Action films should tell you why introducing more female lead characters in popular media is probably a good idea. Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor were not role models to young girls like my sister during her formative years in the way Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Marty McFly, Indiana Jones, Optimus Prime, the Ghostbusters or James Bond were for me.

By the way , get your s**t straight : Darth Maul is NOT human .

I know, I never said he was, but it's irrelevant. Read the conversation. Haters trying to invoke "George said..." to undermine the Disney era when George himself didn't obey the 'rule' being stated, whilst at the same time we've got people complaining about political ideologies in Star Wars when George's politics are fundamental to the entire franchise.... it's all just bad faith criticism for the sake of it.

Personally I like The Acolyte so far. It's production value is clearly at the top level of what we've seen from Disney for Star Wars, comparable to Andor, which was one of my biggest complaints of some of the other series. I like the art style and it's a suitable introduction to some of the High Republic era without feeling to 'different' to what people might expect. I think it was a mistake to start with two relatively short episodes back to back as it removed a lot of the suspense or intrigue in the set-up, but I like the way some expectations were subverted quickly rather than being unnecessarily drawn out. It's refreshing to be watching something pretty much all-new, as opposed to just playing in the gaps between stories we already know - the books have certainly had that, and it's good to see it on screen too.

Is the character well written? Do they stand out?
Do they have the heroes journey where many other females characters simply endure to survive not boss it!
Or are they a case of the creator inserting themselves and their fantasies so the character is a facsimile of themselves?

The only interesting question there is the last one. During episode 3 a subtext portraying the dilemma in following a path of social acceptance versus your own desires or instincts has emerged. It's not hard to link that to a dilemma those that are of non typical gender or sexuality may face, but at the same time - that's hardly the only scenario that resonates with that dilemma... anyone that's been caught between social acceptance and their own individuality (and belief in personal freedom) would identify with it.
