Movies Star Wars Episodes I-IX general thread

You never liked Disney's alleged agenda have you?
Whether like it or not, they even got a couple of Millennium Falcons in their parks now (California and Florida) :D

Just took this snapshot of the Satellite image from the Florida parks (it's from earlier 2019, as it still shows under construction, but it's open and running already! :D

Oh wow. The end of the story of my generation - can't wait.
We are pretty much of same generation Martin, but I personally think the original trilogy was pretty well wrapped up already! ;)
This so called "end of the saga" is nothing more than getting rid of the original cast to start a "new saga" in a couple of years or so with the current, and/or new cast. More money! :D

Neither does George Lucas apparently.
Yep, even disappointed George as well! Something about what did not get in writing when he was selling it to them and ended up as a verbal agreement, which Disney, of course, did not give a shit after they got the goods.

That was

We are pretty much of same generation Ma...

That was one hell of a revelation. You would think they would have waited until everything has passed. Before dropping that bombshell.

I've lived all of my life under the influence of Star Wars, but I'll concede that even when Wicket was Yubnubbin' the **** out of the Stormtroopers on Endor's forest moon, I was still younger than George's "Star Wars is for 12 year olds" demographic. I was then old enough to hate that same age-demographic-aspect come the release of the prequels -- or should I say "Meesa haten da prequels"... but despite the bitter taste they left on my ... errr... eyeballs, I grew to appreciate the multi-generational aspect of Star Wars.

Episode 9 doesn't belong exclusively to the nerds with the battle damaged X-Wings from the early 80's, it doesn't belong to the Obi-EWan Macgregor memelords that grew up with prequels, it doesn't belong to the people that look up to Rey as hero, the same as I did with Luke when I was 5... it belongs to ALL Star Wars fans.. let's not rush to decry all the things "it's not" in our Star Wars, let's try and imagine how the kids we were, when we saw a 'Star War' for the first time would react when we see it.

I just hope there's not too much sand in it...

.. I hate sand.

With what's being alluded to in this and prior trailers, I have a feeling I ought to stock up on some 'Member Berries. 'Member C-3PO?

Funny Celebrity "Deepfake" :D
He sounds just like him, except he looks younger than the real George Lucas though. And clearly a wig :ROFLMAO:

I could actually hear George Lucas sitting down and say these things. Especially on that revelation.

As we count the days down on the cosmic advent calendar to Star Wars Episode XI in the hope that the leaks do not turn out to be accurate.
One thing to note is that if you are a critic? Your either racist?genderist?mysognist? Apply any degrading word with "ist"
Of course "you are hating on a kids movie about space wizards for kids!"

Er...

At least we now know one thing that when they say "unleash the full power of the dark side."
We now know that power is actually battery operated.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Well tomorrow is Rise of Skywalker and deliberately avoiding the spoilers that seem to be popping up everywhere.
Expectations high or low? Halfway just now. Bracing myself for disaster. At least there is The Mandalorian right?

In the meantime here is a Star Wars joke to bide you until tomorrow.

How Warm is it inside a Tauntaun?

...Lukewarm.:D

Just got home from watching the film. It was both a boring movie and an awesome one.

The pacing of the movie up until Leia's death was terrible. Everything felt rushed, badly written and outright boring. The only good scene of that part of the movie was when Rey and Kylo were force talking and then dueling while she was on his Star Destroyer and he was in that small town.

They also kinda retconned on the best plot points of The Last Jedi - The fact that Rey was a nobody, without any kind of connection to any of the Force "lineages". Making her the granddaughter of Palpatine was a bit cheap and cheesy, in my opinion. They could maintain her as a nobody and all could play exactly in the same way.

Leia's death was really sad. When R2 mourning her death right after she passed away brought tears into my eyes. And Chewie's rage after learning of Leia's death did the same.

But after that, the movie improved a lot. It felt a lot like classical Star Wars to me. As it should, giving the number of nostalgic/fanservice moments from there on.

One of the best elements in this movie, as it was in the prequels, was Palpatine. Ian Mcdiarmid is such a charismatic actor and the way he delivers his line is so iconic. Loved every second of Palpatine's presence on screen.

I found it funny that there were also some homages to the EU (Now Legends). Those Star Destroyers with planet-shatering cannons reminded me immediatly of Palpatine's Eclipse (Basically, an Executor with a planet-busting cannon). And the way Palpatine destroyed the resistance fleet was reminescent of his Force Storms.

And they finally gave Chewie a medal. Yay.

So, how does it compare with the other two films in the trilogy? Well, imo, The Last Jedi was a much more involving experience and ouright better movie. And The Force Awakens was better paced, but it didn't have so many exciting parts as The Rise of Skywalker has. Overall, i would give TFA and TROS a 7/10 and TLJ a 8.5/10.

This movie, in my opinion, paralels itself with The Return of Jedi in various ways. Both had lacklustre beginnings but became very good from middle to end and both felt more light-hearted than their imediate predecessors. But both, in the end, became worthy end-chapters for their respective trilogies.

That's it, for now.

The Rise of Skywalker...

hmmm...

Firstly...

And Chewie's rage after learning of Leia's death did the same.
Yup... I'd expected to shed a tear at this film, and that definitely did it.

Overall... it's tough to say, I've seen it just the once, and there's A LOT to take in. I'm actually okay with the pacing, it really was non-stop - the opening crawl and exposition dump at the beginning basically just set up a race to the climactic sequence... and I thought it worked. It felt almost more like an Indiana Jones film in places, which is a good thing.

There are so many things to like about this film, but, there's a few things that if the viewer doesn't just accept them, will probably ruin the film. And the delivery of the massive plot points was about as on the nose as you can get... so if you don't just accept them, you're going to have a bad time - it could only be more on the nose if the characters turned to the camera and addressed the fanbase directly...

Was there a lot of fan service, yep, and I'm okay with that. Was there much here that was original, nope, and I'm okay with that too. It felt like JJ said to the audience... "Shut yo bickering the hell up... and suck on this..." and then went on to punch pretty much every question asked so far, in the face.

I really enjoyed it.

Without spoiling too much (thanks for the spoiler tags, BTW), does TROS conclude the Skywalker Saga in a satisfactory way?
