Q5 Spyshots! Q5 S/RS?

Ooooh a mystery. I Q5S would be nice, but this is prolly a Porsche mule as said.

Interesting. I'll keep tabs on this new story and see whether I can dig up some insight into what this car is.

Q5 RS prototype is sporting modifications typical of an RS variant - under the hood we suspect a dialed-up 3.0 liter TFSI

Here are a few spy shots of a suspected Audi Q5 RS prototype.
The vehicle spotted here is badged with a TDI Quattro emblem but it is sporting a quad-exhaust which is never fitted with a diesel engine. And the rear bumper appears to have been modified to fit those four pipes. The aluminum rims are typical RS test wheels and the front fenders could be a little wider too.
This Q5 RS prototype is also wearing plates from Heilbronn where Audi's RS unit's R&D facility is located.
What could be under the hood here, we really don't know. But in 2009, Audi presented a Q5 Custom Concept at the Wörthersee Tour in Austria that featured a 3.0 TFSI V6 delivering 408 PS (300 kW) and 500 Nm of torque and was taken to be a preview to what a future Q5 RS variant would look like.

Would you be surprised to hear that Audi have been testing the twin turbo 3.0tdi in the Q5. I heard that at the moment heating is an issue but this will only delay not stop it happening.

I love the idea of a Q5S 3.0TFSI but a performance diesel version is the far more appealing.

Holy thread bump for some hearsay...

Best regards,
south

Let me see....

1/ Is this a Q5 thread.... Check.

2/ Is this a Q5 thread for a performance versions.... Check.

3/ Does a 313hp diesel version qualify as a performance version.... Check.

It may be a slight side track but it definitely isn't a 'Holy thread bump' in my eyes.

Didn't even mean that but since we're playing this game already: Will the Q5 S or Q5 RS be powered by that 3.0TDI engine? No.

Looks to me like latest automotive news made you feel the need to bring up the idea of performance diesels for Audi as well (and yea, I know of the Q7 V12).

Best regards,

^ It had nothing to do with what BMW are doing.... zero. Was just taking to mate who's come back for Audi Germany and having a good old chin-wag about the S6, the next RS6 and the latest rumors about a probably S6 diesel on the horizon. During the conversation I hinted that the Q5S interested me apart from the fuel economy and he said I might have a cure for that with a wink and went to say he heard while there that they are working on a TTDI for both the Q5/7 and Cajun/Cayenne.

As its probably far away at the moment I felt it didn't warrant a separate thread but if you wish then why not make one.

A 309bhp SQ5 TDI model will spearhead a revised Audi Q5 line-up that’s set to go on sale in the UK from September.
The twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel model, first previewed by the 2009 Q5 Custom Concept, is likely to make its first public appearance at the Le Mans 24Hrs in June. The standard car will be launched at the Paris show in September.

The stylistic changes to the facelifted Q5 are subtle — aimed, in part, at ensuring solid residuals for the earlier model. The lightly disguised black prototype pictured here wears an optional S-line styling package, complete with 19in wheels. The copper-coloured mule, on the other hand, reveals the new SUV’s standard appearance.
Inside, there’s a new range of steering wheels and new trim applications together with the latest MMI (multi-media interface), bringing it up to the same standard as other recent Audis.
Audi will introduce two new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesels in place of today’s popular units, kicking out 148bhp and 187bhp.
A smaller supercharged 3.0-litre petrol engine with 272bhp replaces the existing 3.2-litre V6.
Audi is also planning a petrol version of the SQ5 primarily for the US market, powered by an uprated version of the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 and producing 325bhp.

Audi will reportedly introduce a high-performance Q5 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Auto Express says the model will likely be powered by a 3.0-liter BiTurbo V6 TDI engine that produces 313 PS (230 kW / 309 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft). It could enable the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph in five seconds, before hitting a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
Additional information is limited, but the model will likely feature an aggressive body kit, high-performance brakes and quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
