Well his words (the dealer) was he believed it might have as much as 215hp and this wasn't from reading magazine, according to him it was from the manager when he was over at Volkswagen. Within a year we should know for sure if this is indeed true.

I believe the BiTdi version will not be release on the GTD but rather on an diesel variant of the R.

I doubt 215hp would cut it under the R badge but who knows. I honestly doubt the 215hp was ever really on the cards for the GTI anyway but it's what he was told, personally I do reckon this engine will make it into a diesel version of the GTI but probably with slightly less than 200hp.

Scirocco R 4Motion with a 300 PS 2.0 FSI would be a dream sports hatch.

^I'd drove the A3 at UK launch and new Golf very recently but only around the main city roads at dealers. I've been lucky enough to spent the last few days behind the wheel of a new A3 on the roads around my home and I can tell you that compared to the last A3 and Mk6 Golf it's ride and handling is a world apart, the way it copes with bumps and more importantly bumps mid corner is exceptional given that it's FWD all of which tells me the GTI will be a class act.

That is then very good and shows that BMW won't have an easy task for the next generation 1 Series, especially because they will have the same layout to start with. But that is why I am asking, about a next generation Scirocco, based on the new Golf and A3, as in IMO it is the best choice (design) for one wanting a 3 door. Would be really nice if there was a new Scirocco GTI (FWD) and Scirocco R (AWD).
