X1 [Spyshots] 2022 BMW X1 (gen 3)

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.

Ok, here is the real scoop so we put this to bed: X1 M135i. Quad pipes for M Performance cars.

Thanks a lot for the info.

This is a real curveball from BMW, and this is what caught Scott out. To 99.9% of us, seeing BMW with quad exhausts like this would mean only one thing, and that's a full fat M version. So upon seeing this, Scott felt confident enough to say "it's coming", and "I've reached out, and it's happening", because to him, and the rest of us who don't have any inside knowledge, it looked nailed-on to be happening. And this is what Scott does. His posts are essentially nothing but stating the obvious dressed up as "insider info". But when that "stating the obvious" is actually not what it looks like, as in this case, he gets caught out. Maybe one day he will give up trying to be something he's not. Quite sad really.

Question is though why 4 exhausts would be used as this is typically an M car feature..

Audi warm "S" models have had four exhausts for years, and now some warm AMG models have four exhausts, so although that's not been BMW's thing, this is 2021 and times have changed, and things like this matter to superficial people. Two exhausts - "meh". Four exhausts - "yeah!", and there would be a danger an M Performance BMW would be seen as being somehow inferior to an Audi "S" or MB "AMG" lite.

Dissapointing but not unsurprising if some mlites will wear quad exhausts.

Yep, was just a matter of time. Seems obvious now.

don't know what is worse. a FWD based M crossover, or a FWD based crossover that is made to look like a "real" M car....

Get used to it. Going forward, there will be several 4 cylinder AMG and M cars with quad pipes.

Sorry, but it doesn't seem to me that any of those photos reflect the front is a current X5, x3, x1 and behind also lights stolen from others for sale today.
This new X1 despite the fact that we see it "low profile" will be taken and changed as relevant as it is, the XM type profile that is seen in the second one may be that it is there

Mmmm not sure about the shape of the head lights, that upward shape reminds me of the E60. The graphics will be interesting to know how it will effect the front design.

There’s a range of options from M Performance including de-badging and fatter wheels so you can make your X1 M Performance a clandestine M. Which begs the question? With M Performance borrowing specific M elements. What’s left for M?

And when will be the reveal!

Probably to CS and upcoming CSL element carbon bonnets, wheels etc.

So your M3 could look like a CS.

This Is What The 2023 BMW X1 Might Look Like Once Launched
Spy shots hint it won't get the bucktooth grille.

The current-generation X1 is the oldest crossover in the BMW line-up to date. It debuted in 2015 with a Mini-based platform, and it's about to hit its seventh year in production. A facelift in 2019 delayed the car's aging, but either way, BMW's smallest crossover is due for a redesign.

According to BMW, the third-generation X1 will debut this year, in line with the brand's seven-year life cycle for each model. Recent spy shots also suggest that the launch is relatively close as the test cars shed more camouflage. Because of that, we're able to stitch together what the road-going version might look like once launched.
It seems that BMW will take a cautious approach for the all-new X1. The wide grille remains, but it won't be like the XM or have the controversial "buck teeth" design of the 4 Series. Our render also shows larger and more rakish headlights versus the outgoing model. The bumper is well hidden in the test vehicles, but we reckon the future X1 will have vertical corner air intakes. Overall, the new look is the opposite of the brand's recent (and opinion-dividing) models and concepts.
As for the size, we're not expecting it to grow much more than the outgoing model. We reckon it will still stay under 180 inches in length since most of its competitors are about the same. However, it might gain a few inches in width and height to make more space inside. For reference, the current X1 is 174.8 inches long (4,439 mm), 71.7 inches (1,821 mm) wide, and 63.5 inches (1,612 mm) tall.

While the exterior might be more evolutionary than revolutionary, we're expecting more dramatic changes inside. Recent spy shots suggest a wide floating screen that houses the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The center console consists of a lengthy center armrest and storage bin with the iDrive controls right at the end. There is also a sizable cubby hole just below the center stack.

As for engines, it could be an array of mild-hybrid gas and turbodiesels, along with at least one plug-in hybrid option. A high-performance M35i version is in the works, along with an all-electric iX1 model.

It's going to be a looker no doubt., The new 2er AT already looks great and that an effing VAN.

I think the X1 has always been the most boring looking SUV out of all the other current BMW SUV’s. It just never looked exciting and competition has much better looking models.

The first X1 is a legend that spawed this whole segment and even has a nickname. And the second was best looking in it's class to me. But I wasn't even talking about the old cars, I was referring to the new one.
Imo the best looking in the segment is Range Rover Evoque
