It looks cleaner, more relaxed and less aggressive than the previous one and that many other manufacturers that go on fronts more "angry", will be glimpsing the same smoothing that will come in the S class?

I am intrigued to find out how much more of an improvement the level 2 systems are going to be - as this will decide which model I buy at the end of the year. I saw Tesla had an update around Christmas basically reducing the autonomy level in Europe to that of the current E class? Wonder if it will be longer than 15 seconds of hands free driving or more ability to make sharper bends?
bit worried it's going to look like a giant A class...however....
From the Motor1 page/Merc1's post the page before...
 Next level of Intelligent Drive
o Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC with route-based speed adjustment: with the help of information
from LiveTraffic, the E-Class can recognize and respond to traffic jams and slow-moving traffic even
before the driver becomes aware of them. The current S class already has this, no? My E doesn't, well it doesn't put the symbols up on the driving assistance graphic, however oddly it does sometimes know not to speed up at certain roundabouts and not others, this could be influenced by the objects on the roundabout though...(quite good at getting round roundabouts leaving Distronic on now!) Recognise and respond to traffic jams though - erm....if a car is moving slow in front, surely distronic has done this for years, what is it going to do differently, it's still got to slow down?
When a traffic jam is detected (and if the driver does not
choose a different response), DISTRONIC reduces the speed to around 62 mph as a precaution. I've been under the impression my current E distronic has done this for the last 2 years, good job i've not had a crash. Certain if it detected imminent collision, it would apply brakes a certain percentage?
o Active Traffic Jam Assist: in the event of a highway traffic jam where there are lane markings, this can
substantially assist the driver with lane-keeping and maintaining a safe distance at speeds up to
around 37 mph. It does this already but only up to about 20mph without having to put hands on wheel?
o Active Steering Assist: can assist the driver in forming an emergency lane on multi-lane roads. This is going to pull over when emergency vehicles come up behind, didn't someone share an MB instagram post showing an S class pulling over to side of the road the other month?!
o Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function: if there is a danger of a collision with oncoming traffic
when making a turn across a highway, the E-Class can brake at the speeds typical of such maneuvers. Don't the current E and S already have this? Sure i've seen the videos on MB youtube channel?
o Active Blind Spot Assist with exit warning: this function can lower the risk of a collision with other road
users, for example passing cyclists. Active Blind Spot Assist also monitors the blind spot when at a
standstill, and can warn the driver of approaching vehicles, motorcycles or bicycles when opening the
door. Thought the E and S had this except the warning when at a standstill, which the GLE and A already have?
o Parking Package with 360° camera: Side View gives the Parking package a new function that keeps an
eye on the entire side of the vehicle. The extended side view makes it easier to maneuver alongside
nearby, parallel obstacles such as curbs and garage walls. This sounds great

 Enhanced interior comfort comfort
o New steering wheel generation with touch control buttons (control by swiping a touchscreen surface)
o Large display screens as standard (2 x 10.25 inches) Thought they were 12.1 or 12.3??
o Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) with "Hey Mercedes" voice control and augmented reality
(additional information such as house numbers is shown virtually in the video image of the
surroundings on the media display, and traffic lights are also shown) TRAFFIC LIGHTS?! so it will tell me when I can go from the Sat nav screen?!!
o Interior Assist (allows intuitive, natural operation of different comfort and MBUX functions by
movement recognition)
o ENERGIZING Comfort Control with ENERGIZING COACH (individual fitness recommendations based on
an intelligent algorithm, integration via wearables)
o ENERGIZING seat kinetics and Power Nap (in conjunction with 48-volt system or plug-in hybrids)
o New Air Quality Indicator function (for megacities)
o Via Mercedes me: Mercedes-Benz Urban Guard (all-around surveillance of the parked vehicle with the
following functions): YESSSS, FINALLY!!
 Collision damage warning
 Tow-away protection warning
 Anti-theft warning
 Tracking function in case of theft
 Owner's ability to deactivate the vehicle key by smartphone as a preventive measure if the
key is lost or stolen

The luxury grille is such an afterthought. Seems like you could easily swap it out for the sport grille.

I sense the E will suffer a loss of identity with this face lift (as many major facelifts) being a hodgepodge of two very different MB design languages. The W212 hasn't aged all that well overall for the same reason.

It's a shame the design of the W213 was bland for the start unless in sport or AMG trim.

What exactly are they trying to hide with this stupid camouflage? The update front and rear lights? I understand that every other tech or interior improvement has been revealed.

What's the difference between M264(220kW+10kW) and new M254?
Below link is a good example to explain differences between M264 and previous engine M274 but I couldn't find any info about M254.

The forum doesn't allow hot-linking, if you strip out the http://www from the start of the web address, people can then see the link and copy/paste should they want to visit it.

I'm guessing this was the page in question:

I guess the main difference between m264 and m254 is the isg in the m254 vs rsg in the m264. Information is limited at this moment because the first application is in the w213 lci and the official press release is not out yet.

Agree 100%. I’m a little bummed that the C and the E lost their heritage grilles in the W2...

At least here in the EU, the "Classic" version of the W/S204 featured the "heritage" grill.:

This also applies to the W/S212 range.:

The M254 should be brand new modular engine, the M264 is an updated version of M274, I think...

As per the E class Chief Engineer the new 200kw M254 has an integrated electric starter generator motor sandwiched between the engine and gearbox whereas the M264 has a belt driven starter generator motor. The integrated motor is the same 16kw/22hp as used in the 270kw and 320kw inline 6 in the FL E450/CLS450/E53/CLS53. It allows a much smoother and seamless start stop operation and improved sailing mode as well as E-boost at lower engine speeds which means its far more responsive than the old M264.
