You are correct, this makes sense to me as well, especially the way the rear window and the trunk slope. I also saw shades of the A5 in the profile since I first saw the mule.

Where is the clock?

No clocks anywhere in the car. It's part of MB's W01- Worry Free Package.

My guess is it'll be a special maker clock they add in somewhere near final production.

I hear this comment on every possible coupé that come to the market after the A5. 4 Series too "copied" A5, why not S Coupé. But I don't agree, A5 looks very good, but no coupé after it really looks like it.

one render is too tall and fat, the other is too short and loooooong. I think it'll be somewhere in the middle or the two, with more aggressive sport pack options vs the S.

It is quite clear what can be expected regarding the appearance of the cars' exterior. Very much a mixture of W222, R231, C218 and CLA elements. Flank sculpturing very similar to that of the W222, shallow side glass area much like that of the C218 and CLA, front facia much like that of the R231 albeit with somewhat more elegant headlamps. And a rear end remotely similar to that of the SLS with the license plate mounted in the rear bumper area and shallow yet long horizontally accentuated taillamps.

I trust that this will be one gorgeous automobile. But not one that "surprises".
