Between this and the next E Coupe and Cabrio and the S Cabrio Mercedes will have the coupe and convertible segments covered. This car has to be right if it has a prayer of competing with the next A5/S5 Cabrio and the 4 Series Cabrio.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet spied on a foggy day
Will feature a soft top
Our spies have managed to take several photographs of a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet prototype.

Mercedes-Benz is ramping up expansion of the C-Class with additional derivatives which will create the largest family ever. Already available are the usual sedan0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp and wagon derivatives but these will be joined in the next couple of years by a coupe and a convertible. The first to come will probably be the coupe which will be followed by an open-air variant equipped with a multi-layered soft top since a hard roof would add weight and increase complexity.

The cabrio will come with Mercedes-Benz's usual neck-level heating (AIRSCARF) and air-deflection (AIRCAP) systems and will have just about the same engines as the other C-Class models. A C63 AMG version is already planned and will come with a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine which is expected to develop around 480 PS (353 kW).

In terms of pricing, we believe the C-Class Cabriolet will be cheaper than the SLK which at home in Germany kicks off at 39,359 EUR. An official reveal will likely occur at next year's Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled for September.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Rendering

The latest reports suggest the new C 63 AMG will join its lesser brothers and sister some time in 2015. But for those of an impatient nature, we have fresh rendered images to show if this new ride is worth waiting for.Considering how much attention the new M4 is getting, this is serious business for any current C204 C 63 AMG owner looking to trade it in.

This is the C 63 AMG Coupe rendered by RM.Design based on the current W205 C-Class sedan model and the AMG Sport body kit it offers as an optional feature. What's changed? Well, the roofline is sleeker, it has only two doors and it looks like it's on a diet of testosterone.

Bulging air intakes at the front, not only feed the car's ferocious appetite for air, but also increase its curb appeal. Large alloy wheels sit inside flared wheel arches and a diffuser tail is accompanied by a quad chrome exhaust system.

It's hard to say if this gray German silhouette is more beautiful than a BMW M4 at the moment, but Mercedes has never disappointed us with its designs. Thanks largely to the enlarged S 63 family of cars, the words "AMG Coupe" are pretty much synonymous with cool design. From LED taillights to jewel-like headlights, even the baby C-Class will have everything it needs to impress.

Power for this and all the other C 63 AMG models (sedan and estate) will come from the new M177 bespoke engine from Affalterbach. The 4-liter turbo V8 will be sold in two flavors, with the most recent reports claiming 476 PS for the base model and 510 PS offered on the more dynamic S-Model.

The M4's 3-liter twin-turbo packs only 431 PS and has been been criticized for its artificially enhanced exhaust sound that's delivered into the cabin though the speakers. We predict no such problems for the new C 63 AMG, as historically, Mercedes models have always sounded better than their competitors.

I dont know. It looks like they shortened the wheelbase from the sedan. The C-coupe has always been on the same wheelbase as the sedan. You can't convince me that this car isn't shorter, which would place it at a huge disadvantage to the 3 and A5.

Hmm, maybe it is because the C would actually have a longer wheelbase than the E coupe. I sure hope they aren't continuing this backward thinking. Sometimes Mercedes is more worried about competing against their own product line than they are BMW and Audi.
I'm betting good money that the C-cab has a shorter wheelbase than the sedan.

Why would it put this car at a huge disadvantage? I don't think its an absolute must that MB compete directly with Audi and MB's models when the E-class will also be in the picture. The SL doesn't have a direct competitor either and it does just fine.

Just being candid, but I think you are failing to understand these market segments. The SL is an uber luxury category, not a competetive numbers segment. It's a bad comparison. All I'm saying is I know how nice the A5 (just sold a 2013 last month) and 4-series are, and Mercedes needs to not hold back because of the sluggish and under designed E cab and coupe.

Seeing thies testing I am more reminded of the 2 series, and that's not a good thing. Now granted, I could be wrong about the dimensions, but I'm willing to bet that I'm right.

Example: 2 series testing

I understand the market segments just fine. My point is if Mercedes has the entire market covered from the low $30k range all the way up to $70k by both the C-class and E-class convertibles, I really don't see a problem if the total sales # is healthy. Another example (although it's not the same situation) is how Lexus is OK with the IS selling in less numbers than the 3-series because the ES350/300h is around (and selling for around the same price) with sales in massive numbers. There is no set rule that it has to compete directly with the 4-series and A5.

In any event, I would put money down that you're wrong about the dimensions of the C and this convo is a moot point. The initial reports from spy pic articles have all been estimating it's length to be near that of the sedan, at ~184in. or so. The 235i is like 174.in, which is shorter than the W204 sedan.

Understand, and I hope it is a moot point. Just keep in mind that since the new C sedan has a longer wheelbase than an E cab and coupe, I can't help but think MB folks may have had a short sighted reaction to this fact. If the new C has the same wheelbase as the sedan, then the C cab will be larger than the E cab. Fact. If MB handles it correctly, they will discontinue The E coupe and cab when the C cab launches, and then reintroduce the E coupe and cab when it is actually built on an E-class platform.

Wolf, FWIW, the S-coupe still looks small to me, especially when compared to previous generations. Looking forward to seeing it in person next month.

The S-coupe's length is supposed to be at a not-so-small ~198in.. That's about 2-3in shorter than the CL550, so not shorter by much compared to previous generations.

There will definitely be some awkward overlap between it and the E-class coupe/convertible in the short term, but it's not unmanageable for the short period of time in which it will occur. This always happens when models grow bigger.

You can't compare size and dimensions with photographs shot at different distances. We know full well the C cabriolet won't be the size of a 2-series. The C cabrio moving up as will the e cabriolet.

M

Is that really the production interior? If so Mercedes better discontinue the E Cabrio the day this goes on sales. Way more luxurious and miles ahead in design. That 2017 E-Class is going to be my next car I can feel it.
