2014 Mercedes Viano spied wearing a production body
Features a new front fascia to comply with pedestrian impact safety laws

The 2014 Mercedes Viano has been caught in the wild wearing a production body.

Looking far more substantial than its predecessor, the redesigned model has an enlarged front fascia with a taller hood that will enable it to comply with stricter pedestrian safety laws. We can also see a massive grille which is flanked by upward sweeping headlights. Further back, the model appears to have evolutionary design0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webpwith a sloping roofline and a familiar character line.

Engine options will likely include the usual suspects, so expect a variety of BlueEfficiency diesels. There have also been rumors about plug-in hybrid0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp and EV variants, but nothing is concrete at the moment.

The new Mercedes-Benz V-Class passenger van's laminated wood dash reminds me somewhat of the recently uncovered W205 raised center panel? :)

Design Sketches Of 2014 Mercedes-Benz Viano Emerge

Design sketches of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Viano were reportedly obtained directly from Daimler by a German-based Mercedes-Benz blog. The emergence of the sketches followed the spotting of the vehicle in camouflage recently.

The two design sketches show the interior and exterior design of the vehicle that is set to be released next year. The rendering reflects a number of spy shots of the vehicle that were taken earlier. It also shows the present design approach of the German auto manufacturer.

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz Viano will reportedly feature a four-cylinder BlueEfficiency diesel engine that will come in three output options. It will also come with the 7G-TRONIC seven-speed auto transmission. Although there were reports of a plug-in hybrid or electric version, the low demand compelled the company to put this plan on the back burner, Volker Mornhinweg revealed. Volker Mornhinweg is the head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

The latest Mercedes-Benz Viano is expected to be unveiled during the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Autobild: Mercedes 2014 V-Class Presentation

The new Mercedes V-Class chases the VW T5. With a fresh design and technology from the new C-Class. The Bulli competitor starts in May 2014.

The design of the CLA, A-Class and E-Class may polarize. However the new V-Class, the Bulli from Mercedes, Daimler designers led by Gorden Wagener did well. And the interior will convince you: high quality materials, excellent functionality and an independent look with the color monitor and the central control unit, which we know from the A-Class. From tailored lines and various design packages up to a particularly sporty V-Class chassis with taut lines and a well over 200 hp strong diesel.

The strongest competitor of the VW T5 debuts in May 2014 with three CDI diesel engines. The power levels are expected to be 136 hp, 170 hp and 190 hp. A petrol engine is not envisaged for Europe. As an alternative to a manual gearbox a seven-speed automatic will be offered. Instead of the standard rear-wheel drive 4Matic from the C-and E-Class will be optional. One can also spend a lot of money for various assistance systems and the latest multimedia generation.

Conclusion (by Georg Kacher)
The new V-Class not only replaces the Viano, but also the R-Class. Because it is a pretty economical and tasteful spacecraft for more than four people.

Mercedes' next-generation Vito/Viano to narrow the gap between vans and passenger cars

Mercedes-Benz will remodel its next-generation Vito platform to narrow the dynamics gap between its commercial vans and passenger cars.

With the Vito platform due for overhaul in left-hand drive markets next year and right-hand drive markets in 2015, the Viano people-mover in particular will benefit from new car-based technologies.

Mercedes-Benz Australia van division general manager Diane Tarr told motoring.com.au the three-pointed star’s redesigned Viano will feature a range of “passenger car-orientated systems and technologies”.

She wasn’t prepared to elaborate, but suggested more details may be revealed at next month’s Frankfurt motor show.

This far ahead, however, the Vito platform appears to be gearing up for a similar makeover to the one just announced for the upcoming Sprinter, set for launch here in October.

Ms Tarr confirmed that while the next generation will retain some residues of the current one, the changes and upgrades will take it well beyond a mere facelift.

If the direction the company is taking with the larger Sprinter is anything to go by, it’s a good bet Benz the Vito and its passenger variants – the base Valente and the high-spec Viano -- will see major safety upgrades in the form of additional driver assist systems.

While the Valente is sold through Benz’s van dealer network, the Viano is sold as a luxury people-mover through the company’s passenger car showrooms.

Next-gen Sprinter models will get adaptive headlights and systems covering collision prevention, blind-spot monitoring and lane departure, plus an adapted electronic stability control package providing protection against crosswinds.

Giving the next-gen Vito/Viano platform more passenger car-like qualities will reinforce the strategy the company has embarked on already in subtly repositioning the Viano to join the GL-Class SUV in filling the gap left by the slow-selling R-Class, which was discontinued Down Under earlier this year.

A mild upgrade to the already high-spec people-mover arrived in May, carrying the Grand Edition label. As the Viano progresses towards the end of its model life, the features differentiating the current “limited” Grand Edition will make their way on to the base standard equipment list.

Unlike the R-Class, the Viano sits on a van rather than a passenger car platform, sharing its underpinnings with the Vito commercial and its base-grade bus, the Valente. As a result, its pricing starts around $14,000 below the previous R-Class pricetag, even though it offers more interior space from a smaller footprint.

It’s also more flexible in its interior options than the R-Class was, available in six-, seven- and eight-seat configurations.

The $79,990 (plus ORCs) base Viano’s standard equipment list already extends well beyond predictable elements like 17-inch alloys, all-electric front seats, cruise control with speed-limiter and automatic headlights and wipers.

It gets self-levelling rear air suspension and Benz’s COMAND central control system with sat-nav, operable through a combination of 6.5-inch centre screen and voice command for audio, phone and navigation.

The eight-speaker digital audio with 4GB hard-drive comes with all the normal inputs short of Bluetooth streaming – CD/DVD, iPod, AUX and USB ports.

It gets bi-xenon headlights with daytime running lights, foglights front and rear parking beepers, a reversing camera, ambient lighting, walnut-look trim, a sunroof and electric sliding doors. All three rows offer map lights and ventilation, the rear air ducts set in the floor.

The Grand Edition, starting at $81,940, adds 19-inch black alloy wheels, sports suspension, full leather upholstery, sports pedals and numerous trim and brightwork upgrades, inside and out.

Passion has an update for us. :)

New Viano to celebrate its market launch in July 2014

The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz Viano may likely celebrate its market launch in July 2014. However, since the van will be positioned as passenger car, it will be renamed.

From Viano to 2014 Mercedes-Benz V-Class

The Viano's successor will not only have higher quality interiors, but also the latest Mercedes-Benz passenger car assistance systems, updated telematics, and the 7G-TRONIC Plus automatic. The van will probably be renamed to "V-Class" in 2014 and arrive for its market launch at the dealerships in July 2014.

Revived Rumor: No 6-cylinder engine

Nobody from Mercedes-Benz wanted to confirm the rumor, that there wont be V6 engines. But we heard exactly this rumor once again: a V6 engine will, if at all, only arrive with the new V-Class facelift. Apparently the V6 market share of this van is simply too low. The interior images we showed recently should not be too far off the mark ...

it is a paradox, but the V class will have probably the biggest slab of wood in the interior from al MB passanger cars.

Would be so much fun to stop next to LaArtist while he's in his E-Class and gently invite him in the cozy cabin!

Anyone figure out yet what the agility knob does? Might come from the C-Class with Airmatic? :)

Thanks to electronically controlled, continuous variable damping at the front and rear, it offers outstanding road roar and tyre vibration characteristics even with the vehicle loaded. The driver can use a switch to select between the various damper characteristics: "Comfort", "ECO", "Sport" and "Sport Plus". The additional "Individual" setting allows the driver to configure the vehicle to suit their personal preferences.
