Here we have the latest photos showing a test mule for the new Smart ForFour during winter testing in Sweden. Instead of being an all different model like the ForFour made together with Mitsubishi, the new ForFour will be more of a four-door version of the ForTwo with both having the rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
The new platform is also likely to spawn off a Renault version (New Twingo) and later on there might even be a version with a Nissan badge. There have been rumors saying that Renault has dropped the interest in the co-operation but this mule was seen with French plates and was also driving together with a ForTwo mule and a French plated Dacia Duster as security car indicating that Renault could very well still be on this project.
Expect the Smart ForTwo to be the first one to hit the market in 2014 with the ForFour coming in 2015 even if the development seems to be done simultaneously.
As this is just an early chassis mule with nothing in common regarding the design we see here, the production cars will however borrow a lot of the design seen at the Smart Forstars concept revealed at the Paris Car Show.
