Fortwo/Forfour New Smart ForFour - Latest Spy Pics

The Smart Fortwo (stylized as "smart fortwo") is a two-seater city car manufactured and marketed by the Smart division of the Mercedes-Benz Group for model years 1998–2024, across three generations - each using a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and a one-box design. The Smart Forfour (stylized as "smart forfour") is a city car (A-segment) marketed by Smart over two generations. The first generation was marketed in Europe from 2004 to 2006 with a front-engine configuration, sharing its platform with the Mitsubishi Colt.
You mean the upcoming, third generation Twingo. Right Wolf?

Yes. Rumored to share the basic smart architecture with rear engine and rear wheel drive and will be co-engineered with Renault/Nissan. Might have been invented with electric drive in mind. Some cutaways: :)

PS. The Tesla roadster might share a similar architecture.

A RWD offering from Renault, even in the form of an optionally electric city car, is very very interesting!

Thanks for the information Wolfgang!

Smart ForFour spied first time with production body

Confirmed for July reveal
The second generation of the Smart ForFour has been spied for the first time wearing a production body.

Although the original ForFour was far from being a success, Daimler is given the car another chance through a second-gen model which will use the same rear-wheel drive platform as the recently unveiled 2014 Renault Twingo. Seen here is a prototype fitted with the production body equipped with very narrow rear doors and a generous panorama glass roof noticeable on the red car.

One of the photos shows a prototype with the trunk open while in another picture we notice the cabin will have two round instruments installed in the center of the dashboard. Expect a roomier cabin as a result of a slightly increased wheelbase but the car will retain its very compact dimensions since it will be just 3.5 meters long.

Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche has already announced the all-new Smart ForFour will be unveiled in July and is slated to go on sale in the fourth quarter of the year.

And this is the model they say might not come to the U.S? This would sell much better than the small 2 seat For Two or whatever its called.

Why is that W205 still heavily camouflaged? Could it be the W213, perhaps?

Couple more shots of it:

As far as I know a disguised car upholds the disguise when the model was official presented because it would make no sense for the carmakers to remove the whole disguise. This is what I read a time in an other forum. But I think others members with background knowledge could answer your question.

Daimler CEO Says All-New ForFour will Finally Make Smart Profitable

Dieter Zetsche, the CEO of Daimler AG, is optimistic that the company’s Smart subsidiary will post a profit for the first time ever thanks to the upcoming ForFour city car.
“The new ForFour is an extended ForTwo and has all the characteristics of the new ForTwo. These include a wider interior relative to the length of the car, a rear-mounted engine and several very smart ideas of benefit to customers. So the new vehicle has all the genes of a Smart,” Zetsche toldAutoNews.

However, while Zetche expects the Smart ForFourto be a commercial success, there are no current plans to bring it to the United States. This reminds us of the first generation ForFour, which wasn’t available in the U.S. either. Launched in 2004 as a B-segment car for Europe, the ForFour was only produced until June 2006, with just 133,000 units reaching customers.

The second-generation ForFour is a radical shift from its predecessor. Co-developed with Renault, it shares many parts with the Renault Twingo, including the rear-mounted engines, and will be built in the same plant as the French car, in Renault’s Novo Mesto facility in Slovenia.

Despite sharing up to 70 percent of its parts with the Twingo, Zetsche is adamant the ForFour will be a true Smart with a competitive price and with a unique selling proposition “which you cannot get from competitors.” While he didn’t give specific sales targets, he said production of the ForFour is a feasible plan that could help Smart return its first profit ever.

2015 smart forfour Shows Us Its Digital Instrument Cluster

On this exact day next month, the upcoming third generation of the lilliputian smart fortwo and the second generation of the smart forfour is said to be officially unveiled in Berlin, and with 30 days remaining we finally get a glimpse of the models' interior.

Despite only the bigger forfour being present in the adjacent spy photos, you should know that both models will share most of their interior center consoles, so anything you see below is most likely to be found on the fortwo as well.

As you can see for yourself, despite being highly camouflaged, the visible bits seem to be quite a lot friendlier to the touch than what the funky new Renault Twingo showed at the Geneva Motor Show.

By far the biggest surprise comes from the fact that the instrument cluster seems to be at least in part digital, making for a slightly more premium interior atmosphere than in its French cousin, which will probably be quite a bit cheaper as well.

Set to arrive on the market at the same time in September, there is no current information regarding the price of the all-new smart brothers, but we do know that they are based on an entirely new platform that has also been lent to the 2015 Renault Twingo, along which the new forfour will be built at the Renault plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia.

Powered by a range of three-cylinder engines sourced from Renault in both naturally-aspirated and turbocharged forms, the new forfour will borrow the rear-wheel drive and rear-engined architecture from the fortwo, which should make it one of the most fun-to-drive cars in its segment, alongside the new Renault Twingo.

Expect more information about the models as we are nearing their unveil date on July 16 in the German capital.
